What Made This Bad?!? Ashes of Creation April Update

I wasn’t planning on doing a video for the Ashes of Creation April live stream. There wasn’t any meat, there wasn’t anything sexy (except for a few goblins). The only reason I’m making this video is because I want to get feedback from people about what made this livestream “bad” ? I kept hearing that the livestream was bad, and I’m trying to figure out if that is because it was a let down from the previous month that had the character creator? Was it the fact it was over hyped with the teaser video? Was it just more of the same with no feeling the game is making progress?

Please leave a comment on the video or wherever you are finding the video (Forums, Reddit, etc.). Let me know if you thought the livestream was good, bad, or neutral and if you felt it was bad, put down a few reasons why.

All of the music you hear in the background of my streams and videos is DMCA Free and available for my fellow content creators to use. 1. I liked this live stream, people can't expect big reveals every month. Steven talked about some really cool things like seasons and events. Good live stream in my opinion.

  2. I disagree. Your missing the point. We come together, hear them talk about their plans, their news, we have fun together, laugh, have a chance to actually ask questions wich are answered by them. Even if they dont have anything big to announce (Wich they are aware btw) watching these livestreams every month feels good, almost like a tradition.

  3. I wouldn't call this podcast bad. Perhaps not as informative as previous casts but certainly not bad. The hunger for more information and not getting it can lead to negativity and depression. My advice is to try and be patient, the information will be presented when it is ready.

As far as their schedule I could handle two or three 45min podcasts that would be nothing more than a studio update and a Q and A. This should not take much prep work. Throw out a topic or general subject and let Stephen answer questions about it. No need to record videos, no presentations, and limited explanations should lower some of the hype while.keeping many engaged.

However after missing a few deadlines in the past Stephen may fear the negativity by some if he changes the format, which I can understand.

  4. Since the monthly livestream's info can be boiled down to a 3min video – I think four live streams in a year are enough given the pacing and current status of development. I would love to have the option to only get info on big consequencial updates though.

  5. Hell, Steven was gushing with info. Pretty simple, it was a tell stream instead of a show stream.
Cut scenes were mentioned as well, first time I've heard of that.
I like the way its done. No live stream causes drama and the scam screamers start up in the back forty.

  6. Never go dark 60 90 days, any good software engineer can agree that an agile customer collaboration iterations are the way to go to keep the end result under control.

  7. I'll continue to watch every livestream without complaint. With that said I'm past getting excited for concept art and updates on what the teams working on. What will get me hyped is when they show off systems in game and of course when they announce a alpha date or at least a spot test.

  8. I liked this live stream and there was quite a bit of good information in it, if you listened to what was being talked about. That said, no, it wasn't full of world shaking "sexy" revelations. Can't expect that every month. So, yea, after 5 years of monthly updates, even Intrepid has basically run out of things to talk about and probably should go dark for a awhile until there is something to actually show us without 30 minutes of explanations and caveats involved. Same thing with the monthly cosmetics as well, to be honest. They have gotten trapped in a hype promise made before they really knew just how long this was going to take. What was expected to be completed "before 2020" is now well into 2022 and we still don't have Alpha 2 yet. That's fine, I am happy to wait as I still believe (even more now), that Ashes is going to be amazing. Open development is fine, but watching the sausage being made one cut of meat at a time, as it were, is unnecessary.

  9. tbh i prefered this one over the character creator one. The ingame events are super intressting for me. The character creator isnt rly. Everyone has their preference. So every livestream there will be people hating on it.

  10. The livestream overall felt fine, I did enjoy listening to Steven vision on several topics, however the livestream also left me concerned.
As someone that feels burned by Star Citizen biggest scam in internet history, I fear Intrepid starting to get into a route where they give high level details of what they are working on and little else.
So far, the development of Ashes of Creation has been very transparent and on a very good pace, so I just hope they don't start throwing sand into our eyes in the future when they need more time. I expect them to provide more concrete timelines to be honest, of what are the development goals for next month, in 3 months, whatever.
In the end, being someone that is more of a visual person, even though Steven mentioned a few areas they worked on this month, I feel they could done a better job of having some visual slides, with points, screenshots, and providing better information regarding development time progression.
Because of this, the livestream topics in the engineering update, felt repetitive, many things we already knew.

  11. i liked this live stream, i look forward to their live streams every month, but wouldn't be offended if they did a every 2 months live stream instead of every month.

  12. I was wondering if the serialized live streams subconsciously has viewers watching them as entertainment. Entertainment hits certain beats and tropes. Project updates are not going to hit those entertainment beats and tropes for obvious reasons. For me this was one of the better live streams as I like running them in the background and listening. While the ones covering large chunks of art are my least favorite I really like the consistency of the updates. Even when the update is, "Hey we are working a lot in these areas. Nothing we can talk about here is some cool art updates." It gives a sense of progress. From an overall sense is catering to the people like me the smarter move or going black and having some big releases better?

  13. Their twitter posts certainly raised my expectations. I thought they would have gameplay of an actual event, instead we got a very brief concept video of goblins running towards a gate. That part was very underwhelming for me.

I was satisfied with the information they provided, just felt a little letdown with the event clip.

  14. Maybe people are confusing "bad" with "disappointing". The latter is what happens when you overpromise like they did. It's almost as if they're clickbaiting their livestreams now for whatever reason.

Now, it's definitely interesting to hear about the event system and since I know what a "state machine" is, I guess I've got a good understanding of how that'll work, but for many people this was just something to hear and think about, there was nothing to see for them. It might have been better, to show off the prototyping of such an event system, showing the different states and how the transition between states look if players (don't) react to them.

Also, if you need to stretch the time a bit, that's the perfect time for tech demos, development process, etc.. I bet some devs have a lot to tell about their UI/UX design, the behaviour trees of mobs and how they keep PvE fights fresh, etc.. You could give loads of information without spoiling the game or telling competitors too much about how you're doing things.

But if they don't WANT to talk about all that stuff, I agree with you that they better don't talk at all, just go dark for 3 months and come back with a bigger chunk of news.

  15. I personally like seeing the progression even if not polished, but I’m a very reasonable and long term minded person. Most consumers are not
