Ashes of Creation – FREEHOLD Placement in Vassal Nodes

The last livestream may not have been totally sexy, but this little nugget of information certainly changed how we look at freeholds, their placement, Node Citizenship, and so on. We’ve been wondering about this concept of placing a freehold in a vassal node but keeping citizenship in the parent Node for a while. While it was said this may be possible, it was also highly foot stomped with Subject to Change™ What do you think about this? Should you be able to put a freehold in a vassal Node ZOI but be a citizen of the Parent Node? Why? Why Not?

  1. I want to live in a smaller religious node. Hopefully we are not gonna get alot off empty cabins on display in the region with no economy to speak of. I don't want my little node economy to be a tourist destination. Why ever bother being a citizen of my little hamlet?

  2. I think you should only be able to place a freehold in the node you are a citizen of otherwise things start to get unnecessarily complicated. This game is already a very complex project so why are we trying to complicate it further? What is the incentive here and is it prominent enough to consider?

  3. To be honest, I don't think node sieges and their mechanics are clear enough, therefore I can't really tell if allowing to choose your citizenship will be a good feature or a bad one.

  4. Large city nodes already have the best advantages and it limits vassal node growth because no one is going to want to live there because they 1. Don't have the protection of the larger node, 2. The parent node has a larger area of coverage for dropping a freehold, and 3. large city nodes like metropolis have special abilities such as world auction houses. The only advantage a vassal node really has is it can be located a short distance away from a key area or critical resources gathering area. I think to balance things out I'd ban the parent node from building in the vassal node's area of influence or at least the immediate vicinity near the center of the vassal node. They still have a huge amount of territory coverage. Because they lack the protection of a large metropolis I'd balance it out where citizens of vassal nodes can use some of the city benefits of the parent node. However, lets say there is an economic metropolis with the benefit of worldwide auction houses. The citizen of the vassal node could use these but they would have to travel to the parent node to use it. This would make vassal cities still attractive to live in as their only real drawback would be protection and travel time to large nodes to use their benefits.

  5. Im worried about this feature, I hope we will test it, or they just scratch it before commiting to this, It will make reasons for defending ur nodes alot less meaningfull, and also would make the house market even worse, where trading for slots in nodes would be ruined. (we can only have one plot/freehold per user, but trading up your plots, transfering freehold plots)

  6. If a Freehold is inside the ZOI of a Node that gets sieged, that Freehold should 100% be effected by that. Otherwise you'll get tons of complaints from successful siegers that don't understand why they can't loot a certain freehold. And since groups of people don't learn, you'll have that unneccessary support nightmare until you change the mechanic.

  7. This is like living in the suburbs and driving an hour or so to work. I'm more concerned about the people that won't care about the parent node because "my freehold is over by the vassal, so even if we lose a siege the odds of someone going all way out there to sac my freehold is slim." The ability to basically place wherever within reason removes the investment in your node. (Not sure if I'm saying that correct) Realistically speaking, If your city/town gets flooded or hit by a natural disaster but everything you own and the people you care about are untouched.. does it affect you?

  8. my main issue is why be a citizen of a lower node? unless its forced by something or other incentives. There's gonna be a whole load of testing in alpha 2 for how this citizenship thing is going to work properly.

  9. One question not really about the topic but I know you know your theorycrafting in Ashes. Can you you share a household with another player with full access like in my case if I "lure" my wife to play this game can we share and use same household in this game?

  10. with my guild, I'd use this mechanic to secure part of our resources and cut the losses in case of a successful node siege – maybe our main crafter's freehold would be within the vassal node region, and he would keep part of the resources so if the main node was sieged – we wouldn't lose as much stuff, maybe do the same with guild hall/fortresses depending on the details
