In this video I go through Intrepid’s design on rock paper scissors mechanics in ashes of creation and what else we’ve learned in the last live stream. Overall in past MMORPGs there are a lot less hard counters, which leads to players running the flavor of the month class a lot. Sometimes when things are extremely unbalanced you will see the majority of players on one spec.

Ashes is combatting this by allowing hard counter mechanics, and as long as they exist you can choose to run the flavor of the month, or run hard counters to it. This leads to players policing combat balance on their own, without the need of developer intervention.
