  1. To all of those afraid of the cash shop and high price point for the Alpha price think about it like this, would you rather them have a publisher breathing down their neck about their financial returns and threatening to sue? Also this is a brand new company with no IP to their name thus they have nothing to fall back on financially. Not to mention that MMOs are much more expensive than any other type of game to make. Yes it is known to be a herald of doom but sometimes you should take these things with a grain of salt.

  2. I would expect a barebones alpha 1 test to run smoothly because 90% of the rest of the game was not implemented at the time of this test. We will have to see as they bring more systems on line and as the server gets busier how it copes.

If at this stage it suffered from laggyness then there would be greater things to worry about. So, my outlook is hopeful and cautious but by no means are my fears quelled at this point. Lets see what happens in the coming months.

  3. WoW's engine definitely suffers if too many characters are on the screen – it was an issue in Wrath and still an issue during BFA. I think they need to do a fundamental rethink at some point.

A lot of FFXIV combat is about making sure not to get in AoEs – which is why the Dragoon has a reputation of dying a lot because of the jumping animations. Sometimes you just have to take the DPS loss and skedaddle.

  4. I barely pay for early access, let alone back a crowdfunded game. AoC is the only exception regarding crowdfunding. When they released the Battle Royale, I became slightly worried. Normally I wouldn't, because it seems like a great way to collect data.. but when one have seen scams, half-arsed games and general seeing where the industry is heading, you don't really want to sell the skin before you've caught the bear.

So far, I'm pretty satisfied what has been going on, and I''m pretty content with the transparency. Obviously no game can show everything… because first impression sells a lot. That Jeffery Bard is gone, that is bad no matter what.

But yea, I'm happy where it is at. Hope it's gonna pan out.

  5. You make some really good points about the servers, I Think I recall that Steven said their back-end is completely custom, built from the ground up so I hope that if it is an issue they would know how to alleviate it. However, with that being said they are a talented team and I'm sure they have preemptively considered this scenario.

  6. Just found your channel. I'm a long-time GW2 player (from their beta back in 2012) and I was getting excited about Ashes…until I found out it's open-world PvP. 🙁 I'm going to go thru your other videos to see if you've addressed this but if you haven't, what do you think about Ashes becoming a GankFest?

  7. Is there full collision detection for player models (the first clip shows the player bouncing off other players' mounts)? Isn't that going to make popular locations a clusterfuck, and allow griefing by blocking doorways, etc?

  8. lol gw2 wvw is 10x times bether than this "massive" pvp…and even so there is no latency, what are you talking about? im from Costa Rica and i dont have any latency when im playing in big zergs in gw2 wvw…maybe you need to check your internet. I hope this game do well because i whant another mmo to play beside gw2, but is way to early to make assertion like gw2 wvw pale to this pvp.

  9. My only two concerns are about PvP and if there’s a way a server could choose either PvE only or both. Also player collision, that’s going to become very annoying! Regardless if not, I may end up still playing the game!👍🏼

  10. The irony is that the community believes there is some shared "dreamspace" where everyone has the exact same idea of what they want out of the game, so there can be one "ultimate" game such as AOC.

Such plebery both excites and disappoints me at the same time. I am excited that people have such child-like wonder when they think of the world, but I am disappointed to know the majority of adults these days are still plebs unable to discern their own reality from another.

  11. Damn after ESO’s new dlc drop I have the itch to start playing that game for the 3rd time but that mmorpg is at the point in its existence now where I feel as though it’s too late for me to join, on top of having to subscribe for eso plus for the crafting bag being a major turn off. I just wish we could fast forward to AOC release

  12. Ashes of creation originally said the game will be 80% action combat and 20% tab target so I was hoping for main action combat with tab target heals, buffs, debuffs and revives so you cant miss those abilities. Having tab target combat in the game just ruins it for me and changes so much of the game to a negative. The world boss fight looked insanely boring and im shocked everyone is applauding it just because its a big dragon. The gameplay shown in the stream looks like a generic tab target game from the 2000s… everyone is standing still spamming attack against a dragon that's also standing still not even reacting to them. This game is set for a 2023 release and I have not seen anything at all that makes me think that: if I turn the graphics to low could you tell the difference from a 2000s mmo?

  13. Nothing is worse then laggy combat, cyrodil from ESO very laggy all the time.
I hope they make sure it's lag free even when players try to push the game to their limits and they will we always do.

  14. turning down skill effects will likely help processing as well, there were certainly instances watching the footage that I couldn't see anything on Steven's screen because of them.

  15. You can't change the combat at this late stage you nonse. So this is totally pointless feedback. Ashes will never ever have solid combat, it will be ESO like at best. There is zero way they can totally re-write the entire engine to make combat feel impactful.

  16. The server was built custom for this game, most are in reality but they don't upgrade them overtime. It has nothing to do with how many (random) proc's happen on weapons its all about server stability.

  17. fact that you talked about animations, impact, combos, being locked in place, what you call free-flow and the relationship between them made me sub. I think this is essential to making a mmorpg worth while, otherwise it becomes a glorified chatbox after the initial exploration period phases out. I always thought you either go with the BDO route and have very fast animations that feel impactful because of skills having multiple hits even if you get locked into place OR you allow for the free-flow thing you mentioned, potentially allowing even animation-canceling via weaving in auto-attacks (Aion by NCSOFT used to be a very very good example of this). Also fine if you have a couple of hard hitting skills that lock you into place or some powerful heals/buffs or go the thing you mentioned with 1-2-3 where 3rd hit animation locks you. New World thinking they can have Dark Souls-esque combat in an MMO is make-believe.

  18. No rubber bending and no lag? Did you consider the fact that they do not probably play over the internet by via a LAN with zero latency and gigabit bandwidth?
