A2 delay to december and its only the riverlands
Wow is notorious for releasing a expac to thwart another games launch…figures.
I don't think they will postpone even if it's nots.ready. the blowback would be horrid. It releases, as is in Q3.
Highly doubt they'll push A2 because of a wow expansion. It's only an A2, not a full game. So there is 0 marketing dollars spent for the launch of A2. If it was a full release it would be different because they've spent several hundred thousand dollars on marketing alone, ramping up for the launch.
The smart money is on a delay. There are 13 working days until Q3. There are 62 working days in Q3. In that time period, Intrepid must manage a successful stress test with multiple thousands of concurrent players per server — unless their intention all along was to ramp up, adding players slowly, after A2 official start. You should remember that the Node Wars stream, which still had noticeable networking issues, included only about 70 players and it took them a month to get the game playable at that tiny number. It is possible that as part of the technical update, Steven and company will break down what the start of A2 will entail, and I suspect that those details will shock and dismay many. If they do not mention A2 details at that time or announce an expansion of NDA testing prior to A2 start, then it seems impossible that Ashes will be ready by the end of September for what the vast majority of the community expects, a full fledged game launch where all A2 ticket holders are allowed to join the testing. The interesting fact is that no one has ever said that this will be the case, and, tellingly, Margaret did originally say that testers would be added in phases, A1's slowly, and then A2s eventually. We all assumed that this would be prior to A2 start, but no one said that.
Intrepid would rather cut initial content then not release Alpha 2 in Q3. They have already cut the rogue/summoner, they may have planned for 4 or 5 biomes an instead if they release A2 with only 2 or 3 – it won't make much of a difference but will maintain their Q3 promise. And if they release on Sep 30 in the US – it will be Q4 here in Australia!
