  1. The Launch Population could vary wildly from Alpha, as there is little bar to entry. Hostile Players could wreck the Economy and drive newbies away for the LOLs. It's possible.

I see two ways to handle server population drops. First, server population drops could trigger Events that attract new players, and incentivise making it their new home.

Second, a pair of low population servers could trigger a shared event that ends with the two servers merging.

For example, Winter comes to the East half of one server, and at the same time Winter comes to the Western half of the other server.

As Winter Advances, Silver Dragons, Frost Giants, Ice Trolls, and Legions of Snow Goblins invade and conquer the Nodes one by one.

Once the remaining population is driven to the opposite half of the map, they are merged, and Winter ends.

The title of the game, Ashes of Creation, suggests that the servers could be reborn out of the ruins. Nodes and weather may give them the tools to pull it off.

  2. Some import information regarding node wars.
Declaring a war is way more complicated than " one , two, three, four , I'm a mayor and I declare a nodewar" war declarations will cost alot of resources to make and node wars will also be time gated , if a node was successful in defending it's self it gets war immunity for a time depending on it's level.

  3. Very fair poitns regarding the node system. The Ashes project is too ambitious for me, it might change the way mmorpgs are designed indeed, but Ashes might take the fall from it.

  4. im more confident node system wil be fine, its the constant open world pvp and ganking im more concerned about
even tho they will have the harsh Corrupted penaltys for people ganking non combatants , bounty hunters and so on,
should alot of zones be open world pvp yes, but maybe not all of em ?

  5. Hmmm, with 4 nodes type and only 5 metropolises on server I see some potential for not having metropolis of certain type. I wonder how quickly there will be consensus on which type is least metropolis-worthy.
