So after reviewing the recently Ashes of Creation vods on stream, a discussion was sparked about the zerg mentality and how this highly anticipated MMORPG will tackle the modern day mentality of efficient pug speed running groups.
Today, i wanna talk about this whilst also giving you guys my first impression of New World after returning to it after 2 years.

Steven told us that Ashes will launch with more content than any MMORPG launch, so Ashes is going to be just fine.

As much as your combat mechanics matter, enemy AI matters equally as much. An adaptive enemy is the best enemy. Ashes is at least making an attempt to do that… but will it be enough? Idk.
If the game keeps up on it's promises I dont see that happening.
Could take a page out of Vrising bosses, you could zerg them but many of them get exponentialy harder the more players within range of the boss. For example 1 boss would spawn x adds. Where X adds = the amount of players to the point where you get zerged down by adds very quickly if you try and zerg the boss down :p Some bosses are easiler with more players but majority of them are actually harder with more people since the merchanics/hp scale up alot based on players.
If mobs difficulty scales exponentialy above the planned player count for said content it becomes less effiencent the more players there which wil detour people to zerg PvE content. In new world and GW2 case generaly there no downside 2 zerging bosses cause overall there easier than using the group size that is planed for that content.
Two of the worst choices New World made was:
1. Discouraging Alts
2. Letting everyone craft everything.

Maybe they will let the world "punish" the players for Zerging … by acting like a real world that can be destroyed by over using certain ressources… So players that go against the streamline would be rewarded for going their own way instead of following the big Train….

This is why I don't like new MMOs. They're arcade games, not MMOs. I play Everquest. You know how you get loot in EQ? You kill things. While you can spend a lot of time running in EQ, it's not a running simulator.
why are you lying? in past streams you said you only made it to level 42 in New World. You've never made it to max level.
I am going to say yes. Time after time when polls are done people vote overwhelming that they dont want a pure PVP MMO. When i talk to people online they think its opt in. I think the first month will be huge but will quickly drop
I am noticing more these days I'm like GW2 WvW Risk Vs Reward & content (fun when stuff is happening, not so much when not like all MMOS) & not AOC planned Punishment Risk lacking rewards since its your stuff Vs "reward" if you want to gank players or mess up caravans & PV"x" in the PVE setting. So that is 1 stike against AOC. Strike 2 comes if AOC has BDO style guild fighting for siege, at limited times would be a double strike. Strike 3 comes when lagg & Servers are down. I could give more examples but you only need 3 strikes to drop a MMO & that is their fate.

For events and event chain in open world, it will always be like this.
There can be branching and randomised spawn timers with different predicates to trigger them but they will all be figured out in a month or so and then it would be the exact same zerging of players as other games you are talking about. This is just human nature of figuring out the code and min maxing it.
If you want a completely dynamic event system that is curated for you and not procedurally generated then you might just as well step outside because its not possible as a game and even if it were, we will still gamify it and figure out the routine.
Imo, these things are all non-issues, the only thing to worry about is:
1. combat needs to be good and fluid.
2. there should be a lot of varied stories, events, encounter etc.
3. decent optimisation.
4. should have hard open world.(this relies on 1st point to feel good)

You don’t want an MMO you want to force people to interact with people and that is horrible design that all devs have decided is bad. I don’t think having to use ALTs is a good design either, one character per server with limited choices or one character can do anything is best. Having to level over and over again is pointless and boring . New world is nothing new agreed but it’s a good old fashioned level RPG. It’s fun for a while if you haven’t played this stuff for years over years like some people. I defy anyone to show me a non collect or slaughter quest system. In the end everything I have ever seen breaks down for this.

As i want to Ashes of Creation to be a succes, i think it will be outdated. Always PvP is not a good option. It may be fun to fight others for a mob or spot if you have much playtime. But if not, it will on the long run drive people away from the game. Example: I have prepared few hours for the weekend open world raid with friends. Boom another guild rolls over mine mid fight. It wastes my time i had earlier invested just to make it to the fight. I didnt kill the boss nor got the item i was hoping for. Will i have motiviation to log further on?

meta mentality isnt a game creators fault. if people in new world WANTED to get into a 5-man and play through these zones instead of a massive zerg…they would. but its the players that decide to not do that. its players that zerg open world bosses, when it clearly states theyre meant for 5-man groups. whatre creators supposed to do? lock people out of content they payed for, just because theyre in a raid group? seems like a bad idea idk though
MMOs are not about fun these days. For the "boomers" it's about buying your way up by RMT and not playing the game. Or you just abuse game mechanics with your degenerate friends and ignore the fact you're still in mom's basement.
If at launch the end game content is better than zerg rushing 30 chests for water mark increases on random slots then im sure Ashes will be just fine. 😂
