A lot of the Ashes of Creation PvP and PvE discussion is misunderstood due to many current players not being around in late 2016 and early 2107. This hopefully clears up some of that.

The game isnt made for pvers simple as that
@0:45 Is the most important part, and you already knew that meaningful PvP does not have Corruption.
I perdonally think making the open ocean an auto flag zone was a mistake, we already have open world pvp with systems that support it and protect people from greifing. It was unnecessary to remove those protections and really it has removed certain play styles from the open ocean you cant really be "good" guys trying to help people being attacked as you are flagged up against everyone on the water.
My hope is that, during Alpha 2, they'll realize the mistakes they've made. But that has a very low chance of happening, because besides the fact that Alpha 2 might not be long enough, I have a feeling that Steven is the kind of guy that doubles down on what he wants, even if it's bad.
I haven't followed from the start but I thought the concept of getting corruption from initiating PvP combat was already known in the era of Kickstarter. I'm wondering why it now becomes an issue. Resulting in interesting discussion though, so all good.
Hey Guys, My view and I am assuming Steven's is its modeled after Archeage sea content which is open pvp. The general reason for this is its extremely lucrative to move resources over sea's, often almost doubling its value. It was dangerous, stressful and always entertaining to run packs across the water. I have and always expected Steven to implement open pvp on the water as he came from Archeage to create this game, Archeage was a blast for the first few months of play until we started seeing the P2W caps and changes that removed content that mattered. It would have been a great game if not for greedy devs. I was a runner in that game and earned most of my money by crossing those dangerous waters laughing my way to the bank by just having a small little clipper running packs. This is content we want, valuable content!
