  1. I think people will wake up with AoC the moment they realize it is either Russians or Twitch streamers that determine what goes on in their server. If AoC targets the Russian market specifically, it will be very successful, as this type of MMO is VERY popular there. AoC look cool to me… but I love that type of MMO. Right now, I am playing Lineage 2 Interlude in a private server. Lineage 2 is a game where after level ~24 (out of like 70), all gear comes exclusively from trading with other players. If you want to craft it, you need to make a dwarf and level it up as a crafter. But if you want the mats to craft things, you need to make a separate dwarf and level it up as a spoiler (class that unlocks an alternative loot table for any enemy, that's the "spoil loot table" on top of its normal loot). But both these classes stink at combat. It is a very hardcore MMO, that has its own very niche community. And I love it. In a way, I want AoC to be a niche game.

  2. imo MMOs only can become great if they have a great story and lore behind it. WoW had it, FF had it, StarWars had it, Elder Scrolls had it, (no idea about guild wars) …
Ashes of Creation? Nope. It's completely new. People want to play it because of the gameplay and how pretty it looks. But this will only last for a few weeks, then it will get stale. You need to create a story/myth/legend around the world of the game. Without that.. it's just mechanics and grinding items (which is every MMO)
I think Ashes of Creation may hit something like 1 million players , for a while , then it will drop lower and stabalize around 100-500k players (just my tinfoil hat guess). BUT if they put effort into creating a cool story and myth around the game, things could be different.

  3. I would agree that it won't kill wow, but between Blizzard, FF14, AOC, ESO, GW2 and New World, I think wow will be effectively dead. By that I mean a dramatically smaller number of users, possibly even last in line. Also, I am not sure if Steven is setting out to destroy WoW in the first place. What would be considered successful and not a failure? Lastly, I thought AOC was a mix between tab target and action combat, am I wrong on that?
