  1. well, if you know ESO combat you know that it is much more than holding block permanently to mitigate 50% damage, as blocking costs stamina and without stamina you take the damage… roll dodging also costs stamina as running. If you are not carefully watching your resources you are toast within a few seconds… Showing ESO combat in such a purposefully bad clip does not do justice to ESO Combat either. Nobody has to like it obviously but I think we can agree that not a small amount of players like it a lot.

  2. I love GW2's Action Camera for Combat and then being able to turn it off to manage the menus. I still wish I could rebind the right mouse-button to something else in-game though…. I have to use additional software to do that (I like to bind Dodge to the RMB). It's stupid that I can't just do that in-game. Take note AoC! Make it better!

  3. I'm not sure most people would see what I mean, but I feel like Blade and Soul's combat would seem like a good inspiration for Ashes too.

I mean, I don't actually know how Ashes' combat works in detail, but looking at how it works in GW2 and seeing the similarity and differences with Blade and Soul, you could take inspiration on where it fails and where it succeeds too. (I had a lot of fun in it for a Nexon game :/)

  4. Yep, I like the idea of that skill based timed block mechanic like FFXIV has. Tanks and Melee are going to have a lot of fun in Ashes!
I only play Casters these days so I'll be using Tab and Placed AoE's most of the time.

  5. Skill based doesn't remove the point of PVE content kind of a false statement that depends on the combat and what the ai does. Dice rolls and such can all be applied to action style combat, I don't understand why this is so foreign to people. The only different between tab and action comes down to looking in the direction and attacking than the game doing it automatically for you. As well as aiming your abilities, or using move movement type abilities to dodge or reduce damage. People need to stop being scared of action combat like as if anything they did before won't work all the sudden which is far from the truth.

  6. Smooth flow combat, comboing mechanics, Impactful blocking, gear checks on top of skill checks in dungeons, and exceedingly meaningful PVE encounters. I am completely for this. I think you do a lot of comparison to BDO, while I wholeheartedly feel you should take an excruciating in-depth look into the combat in Tera. You're probably sick of seeing me by now :D! And Im not promoting the game by any means, its at low pop and niche – it's just that you go over these terms and I feel Tera is THE standout shining example of all of these put together. I personally PRAY AOC takes elements from BDO/Tera/Elyon because their combat is truly addicting. So much so that I played Tera for 7 years straight, and trying WOW/FF feels like an absolute empty shell of combat.

Tera had an amazing balance between Action/Skillbased dodges, and mechanics that override iframes. There was always a mechanic or two that checked your gear (both DPS, and Defense.) There were things that the Tanks could not block, even though their block blocked a majority of attacks. Every dungeon wasn't a matter of "I can just press dodge skill at right time" There was definitely an awesome mix. The blocking mechanic is SPOT on exactly to what you are thinking of, or asking for. Even when they refined it to a 'perfect block' system – I felt they made it only more exhilarating.

I truly wish I had recordings of some of the top runs, and the extremely fun mechanics involved, but if you ask just about any seasoned Tera player. (Those that consistantly cleared Hard Mode's and Extreme Modes, not just the normals.) They would probably tell you the exact same thing!

If AOC were to do something close to this then my Hype would jump from 50% to probably around %70-90.

Additionally, I would love to see you hammer further on the NECESSITY for meaningful PVE. I think that's my favorite part about your content so far: is a realistic understanding of what the real MMO playerbase wants. Keep up the good content!

  7. I'm sorry but you couldn't be more wrong. Action combat is the only way to go. In fact, it Ashes goes the route of tab targeted, the Game will fail. The less hybrid you have, the better. Can't get stuck in 2004, tab targeted combat is archaic and a thing of the past. Hybrid is an awful cop out that allows them to fall back on tab targrted…. which will kill the game

  8. This may be a bit of an unpopular take, but TERA, the Warrior tanking for that while I played was a lot of fun and required using skills to mitigate and dodge abilities to stay alive. That being said the end game was awful and I haven't played since 60 was the level cap. Lol. But there is something to be said about engaging tank gameplay that requires skill to stay alive instead of running out of the bosses hit zone or just standing there to hold aggro.
