What is Ashes of Creation?
Ashes of Creation is a unique take on the MMO experience. Our world structure is dynamic and built to react to the actions of our players. Cities will rise and fall, their populations based on the history of the world as the players create it. Quests will unlock as these populations gather, their needs grow, and secrets are unlocked. As the worldās NPC structure is established in real time, players will have the ability to destroy what theyāve created, paving the way for new development, new populations, and real change. Political strife and intrigue will play a very real role in the structure of your world. Gone are the days of static worlds, change is here to stay.
Risk Vs Reward
All across Verra, you have the opportunity to experience massive warfare, participate in epic trade caravans, and gather valuable components to craft exquisite items. Not only will your fellow players be your adversaries; the creatures of the land and the very environment itself will pose a constant and fresh challenge. Will you siege castles to become royalty, defeat other guilds to showcase your prowess, shape the marketplace by being a successful trader, or earn renown by developing your artisan crafting skills? This is your story, you tell us!

Nyce! (gameplay of me :D)
Awesome video! If I'm not mistaken Classic WoW only had 6 starting zones, because there was one shared zone for each faction. So I think the starting experience will feel very similar, except for the fact that a lot of people will just run straight towards their node of choice.
So actually, maybe it won't be so bad/crowded.
But the queues? Unavoidable
Thanks for having me on bro! Great points you made!
Congrats on the big 1k, brother!
Heh, Final Fantasy XIV, launch of Endwalker, queues were in the thousands. I saw 8-9 thousand ahead of me several times… then the errors would pop and boot you from the queue… LOL
THAT is an unacceptable queue.
A fun summary… https://youtu.be/Bh3YqYAHCUw?t=45
Just have extra servers on standby and ready to go. When a queue for a specific region hits a high. Bring a new one online. Don't activate 10 at a time. That will ultimately create dead servers. Queues are going to happen, Intrepid knows it, the players know it. Just deal with it until it all levels out š¤£.
However I'm not sure queue times would be alleviated by starting zones? Since there is no shard or instancing there is still only 10k max on a server at a time right? More starting zones will help with performance and questing etc since there wouldn't be thousands of players all trying to do the same thing in one spot. But the server limit is the server limit no matter where those players are I would imagine.
Heading into Alpha 2 and then into launch, the Ques will probably be at least a couple of hours. They need to spend extra time analyzing the purchases drilling down to how many players will actually be playing.
Solid video brother. Iām not jealous of the devs with what problems they will have to solve regarding this issue.
5 mins
did they mention how many tester packs have been purchased??
None, there is so many mmo that made Qs none existante how server works
What if corruption is used as a visual indicator if a server is dead. If there aren't enough active players fighting back the corruption, then a server merge can be disguised as a "your world/dimension has been overrun, take this portal to safety and find refuge in this new realm (server)"
Queue should be .001% of the development time, is that fair?
It's 5 years away, why are people freaking out about queuing š¤£
if you get more than a 2 hour queue aoc should offer you a vip prioraty queue for the next day which puts you ahead
Many games have the ability to handle queue times with tech that creates picks for example of the same zone. This helps with the number of players inside one pick at a time until characters are spread out.
We all know it doesn't matter what day it launchs many will be booking time off to no life it for a week or 2+.
great points and congrats on 1k! i just dont want server merges, maybe a Wednesday 3am launch is good idea
number of new player spawn spots wont be as much of an issue compared to traditional mmo since the world levels up asd ndoes progress so players can leave the start area at lvl 1 and go to another node area and start there instead or even across the map potentially, shal have to see how the defaukt world is like before node level i guess for that.
biggets issue with server and queues end up being Guild chooses server x now everyone who in that guild joijniing late will bombard server X dispite being full to play with there guildies increasing queues. if they could premake guilds and then pick servers there and lock servers to new players not in guild who assigned themself to that server as they fill up it help with queues and not have issue with guildies getting blocked out
i want one of those hats!
you also lose your name on a merg.
iām against layering, but for the first week, might need to do it. launch days are hard.
0. If your game can only support 500 players then you should only be selling 500 copies of the game. Stop selling more than you can support on your game.
If you can't handle a 3 week queue, you're not hardcore enough! AoC isn't for everyone!
Especially anyone ahead of me in the queue…
