we should be a bit harder on the ashes of Creation dev team

Intrepid Studious the dev team behind Ashes of Creation get away with a lot that we would get mad at blizzard for a overpriced alpha key, a lack of direction. and I think we are overhyping Ashes and praising the game a bit too much. I don’t want Stephen Sharif and the ashes team to get complacent thinking we will blindly go with them on anything they do.

  1. Besides Ashes of Creation, there is another project that actually interests me more. Both ask for a $250 Pledge minimum for their next Alpha. I am committed to this other project, as Intrepid doesn't need my money, and I might really suck at Ashes.

My main fear for Ashes is that the entire system will catastrophically fail as a whole. It might become a toxic gankfest with a stagnant economy where the "right" players are driven out by the locust swarm of content consumers.

The worst part of the $250 Alpha 2 Pledge is not whether I can afford it, but rather that the Alpha 2 player base will only include serious players that buy the vision, and at Launch it will be a very different player base who could drive all these dynamic systems into the ground.

All the individual systems could be good, but the system as a whole might fail.

  2. My fear is the game being catered to veteran players. We don't get many MMOs that celebrate your first experience after you finish creating your character.

I would love to see an MMO that helps veterans welcome new players with gifts. FF14 community kind of does with starting gear and crafted food buffs.

  3. It helps to understand where the $250 price tag comes from. Kickstarter was $500 and since we are halfway through development it has dropped to $250.

I also worry about a gank fest, I just hope and pray the Corruption System hurts and prevents all the unnecessary ganking.
