I have been following the development of this game for a while. This is the first of many to be sure. The plan is to have videos, like this one, dedicated to a single topic of discussion. Also, to have videos where I provide feedback on the dev update videos.

  1. Of course I like the idea, but the current augment system is already enough work for Intrepid studios. As you mentioned, adding hard augments would be difficult to conjure up and create. I'd like to play this game with my friends within the next 3 years.

  2. I also like to think up cool abilities and augments for the game, but my best guess would be that for ex. Bard augments do the same for each primary class.

Like "on ability hit, give xy stat boost to nearby allies", which you then can apply to any ability of any class..

  3. I share your enthusiasm about having 64 truly unique classes, but I think it's realistically too much work.
I think your calculation with the 3XX spells misses the different "schools" of augments that your secondary will offer.
    From the wiki:
Q: There are 32 augment schools, not including racial/social/religious augments, meaning a total of 8960 (280 spells * 32 augment schools) different variations of spells. How do you guys plan on tackling that, or has the augment system for the classes changed since?
A: It has not changed; and the intent is for us to design relatively templatable effects conferred by each school of augmentation; and those effects will have a lot of shared benefits that get conferred to a particular ability when the augment gets applied.[10] – Steven Sharif

I expect the different subclasses to feel largely similar, but with some interesting build options nonetheless (changing the damage type alone opens up a lot). Perhaps they focus on some classes to make them more unique.

But IMO there's so many systems in Ashes that allow yourself to differentiate, so it's not a deal breaker for me. Think religious, racial etc augments as well! Unique weapons, or at least rare equipment.

Still, it hurts a little for me, as I've previously played Runes of Magic, which has a great dual-class system (but is P2W and stopped in time somewhere in the 2010s).
