Honestly, Ashes of Creation has made a lot of progress over the years it’s been in development for. While the MMORPG is still a few years off of being remotely close to releasing, it’s good to see previews like this that showcase what players have been excited for all of this time. And while I definitely had some criticisms with the preview, there were a lot of positives surrounding it as well.

  2. I do really appreciate how honest and open to feedback the developers of Ashes of Creation are. However, I'm concerned about the combat and technical aspects of the game. In the larger siege battles there was a big dip in fps. Even in wow in big pvp battles the fps plummets, I don't know how they're going to optimise the game well enough so that we won't have to upgrade our rigs. With your point on the combat, I agree that it's quite lacking. The spells are really cool but other than that it just feels a bit 'boring'. Compared to bdo in which the spells and attack animations have so much impact and fluidity, AoC feels clunky and a bit lifeless.

That being said, the footage they've shown is a big improvement to previous ones and I'm excited to see more. I'm rooting for this game and for the developers and will continue to look out for new footage.

  3. No camera shake when there's an impact and when the skill hits there's no impact as well. and no knockback as well when the boss hits a player. It really sucks to look at when a giant boss hits an ant player and does nothing.

  4. Pretty sure they can fix some of the clunky feel of skills by making the skills non-stationary. like if you are casting while moving it would have some of the directional momentum. So if you cast a skill that lifts you up to the air it can also act as a light jump.

  5. anything that is not part of the main systems of the game would most likely only get an overhaul on or before beta at least after the node, artisan, mass pvp and combat systems are completed.

  6. The game looks good and fun, I like the idea of a large siege and raids though I'm sure it will highly depend on the player's available bandwidth. The Fighting System looks a lot like GW2 which is ok but I don't care for it, ever since I tried action-based combat like BnS or BDO I just can't enjoy click-based combat anymore. Something I would like to see is a good character customization system, and please no gender lock.

  7. Game looking legit good for an alpha! …On another note I saw a lot of invisible bodies at 3:50 boss fight, would be amazing if that were a feature tbh(I know it isn't)

  8. I'm wondering how this game will hold up to the "Try Hards" that max level the game inside of a week?
Will there be enough regular updates once AoC launches, or long 6-12 month droughts between significant content updates?

  9. Hey I usually like your videos but not this one you're reviewing the game like it's ready for release and not like an alpha. And you keep saying I don't want to be nit picky, then don't be it's an alpa! You spent very little time complementing what they did right. The game is very stable and the gameplay looks amazing. The zones and landscape looks fantastic. Overall very pessimistic tone when the gameplay screams optimism! Just my opinion don't take it personally 🤷

  10. Development may seem slow, but they have made a LOT of progress. For an alpha, I'd say the state of the game looks promising. It is a little concerning when a lead dev leaves, but hopefully it doesn't mean a bad thing for the game.

  11. People need to remember this will be a niche game. It WILL NOT be for everyone. It is not a themepark mmorpg like the ones you are used to like WoW, ESO and GW2. Stevens philosophy is, dear I say, pretty hardcore and more in line with older games like EQ and DaoC. I am very excited and I'm crossing my fingers for it to be good and succeed.

  12. Games looking promising, just hoping theyll fix up the stiff animations, I know its alpha but it all looks like pre generated unreal engine stuff

  13. Thanks Stix – I'll leave my cooked comment, but few will agree with me.

Game is probably going to disappoint a lot of people. (95% of everyone)

The way its being built right now it is going to be a very slow paced Fedex travel simulator.

The world is basically empty until people "do stuff" so it will probably be mostly empty forever because people are lazy and need their hands held

PvE is the main focus of the game to grow and expand the world, but open PvP is a thing so it will be basically a warzone all over because PvP is more fun then PvE.

Game will either pull a < UO/ New World / Fallout 76 > and limit PvP or it will flop and that is my opinion after playing Alpha 1

P.S. I like the game and will probably be playing it a lot because this type of cooked content is my thing. I love traveling, trading, racing and running from the constant threat of death.
The world is big, but people will spend most their time in a small fraction of it because PvP is were the buck stops with this game.

  14. I agree. It does genuinely look good, especially for an alpha. While I've had my doubts over the years, I sincerely hope every one of these Kickstarter/Indie MMOs succeeds and breathes some new life into the genre.

  15. I LOVE that dragon design. Not the ram’s horns so much, but I love that the body is fairly stocky, while the wings are HUGE. It adds a touch of realism to the dragon. It actually looks like a flying animal that doesn’t have a clear window to take off.

Edit: 9:39 you’re thinking Stand of the Ancients. RIP Strand, no one misses you.

  16. I've been following this game but since it is way deep on PVP I probably wont buy it. To me PVP is the destroyer of MMO's since all balancing is PVP based due to the fact NPC's don't whine when they get beaten

  17. Wonder how long it takes before everyone's armour set is just a demigod angel or demon or something like diablo
Kinda hard to make a cool set for the hardest content then need to make a even better one for the next piece of content

  18. I think this game would benefit from an action based combat, like bdo. Ive never been a fan of push number sit and watch an animation go through. of which 6-0 tends to be out of my hands reach , which slows my reaction even further. don't have that issue with the action based combat where its q e r f z x c , and then sub abilities that happen based on where youre directing with w a s d.

  19. And this is why I think devs shouldn't show anything till it's concrete. Unlike stix u have ppl who will definitely write the game off and say this is the final product.

  20. The true flight mounts in Ashes are, or so they say, limited to a small group of people on a server. Technically temporary either on timer or however long you are mayor or king/queen. Available only to "mayors" of high level nodes, being the king/queen of one of the five guild castles, or a drop from world bosses. Each server will have about 10 – 20 at a given time. Not sure if the phoenix counts as a flying mount or a gliding mount though, as gliding mounts don't have true flight and can glide relatively close to the ground.

So in other words, based on what we know, flying mounts flying over the walls likely shouldn't be a worry in most cases.

Game is making pretty big leaps in progress, and it's hopeful to see at the very least. The game will never reach the expectations of the hype, and people will inevitably throw a baby tantrum about that, but I'm looking forward to seeing (as well as playing) the end result.
