Massive is great .. and means nothing and is actually detrimental to a game … if the content isn't there. I see this game's biggest issue being server population crash once the casual players find it's not for them or they just don't like whatever about it. Massive game worlds with tiny populations make MMORPG seem broken. In a way they are. All that being said … we'll see how it plays out.
Skyrim was 38 square kilometers, 35times smaller than 1200. Multiply it by 9province to get Tamriel and its gonna be 300. 4 times smaller than 1200 I dont think it can be interesting by itself, only with help of player interactions, but you can say this about any game. And i dont see reasons why AoC would be different from like Arcage, exept without novelty factor
