  1. It will take a lot of human testing. On paper, is sounds alright, though there are workarounds such as storing gear before killing yourself to remove corruption, or a large army of people walking to a node they are going to siege as "non combatants" unmolested because it would penalize and weaken the defenders for killing anybody before they set up a huge force outside the gates. To fix the later, maybe if your node is at war with another, then you CANNOT be a non combatant on their lands. People abusing the "non combat" mode to get places they would normally be killed for getting close is also a concern.

As for the gear combat scores, 50% actually sounds alright. In MMOs like WoW, the gear makes the person, legit pushing stats 600% higher than their base stats if they had basic whites on. With 50%, which is probably some crazy endgame gear, you can arguably, potentially, defend yourself against 1-3 attackers by yourself, assuming they are not equally geared, which is very important in an open PvP game where it will rarely be a fair fight. Make it too weak, at say 20-30%, then any 2 people can kick your butt because endgame epic gear has little statistical value compared to having 1 competent partner in crime.

  2. I haven't done any MMO since EQ1 in early 2004, and no PVP of any kind ever, but because I am so impressed by the ambition of Ashes of Creation, I am willing to go all in.

I worry about player caravans more than anything else, as I don't see any deterrent except Guild Alliance enmity.

It will be a while before Ashes releases, and I don't know modern MMOs, especially "Action Combat."

What game or games might you recommend to prepare for Ashes of Creation?

  3. As it stands now, Ashes of Creation will be a never ending Gank Box! No one ever talks about this (including TiersonBane): How does a player get from "Combatant" to "Non-Combatant"? The answer is : 90 seconds. Yup, 90 seconds after a Combatant does his last action he turns into a Non-Combatant. So a Non-Combatant Ganker who ganks a low level player turns into a Combatant, and gets to loot the corpse. 90 seconds later the ganker turns into a Non-Combatant and gets to gank again, and again and again, with just a 90 second cool-down each time. Gankers need never get corrupted. A Ganker/Griefer has complete control as to weather they choose to become corrupted or not. When you understand this, you will understand that open-world PvP is really going to be open-world Ganking. Also you will understand that getting flagged as "Corrupted" will be a very rare occurrence. If this game mechanic remains, Ashes of Creation will turn into a Giant Gank-Fest! Gankers will be rewarded and their victims will be heavily punished.

  4. The Caravan system is a joke. Every caravan wagon may as well have a huge neon sign on the side saying "FREE LOOT". Steven talks about Risk vrs. Reward. When you put your goods on a caravan wagon, the risk of loosing it is huge. The only reward you can achieve is having the goods arrive at its destination, and that is not going to happen. I see caravans as existing for "Quest Caravans", and large guilds that can get dozens of its guild members to be escorts. Otherwise, caravans are all risk and very little chance of reward.
