every time i think of overwatch, i get sad cuz that game used to be good. i remember playing that game in 2017. i was playing by myself, so my fun didn't last very long, but it was still fun while it lasted. i went back to the game again 3 years later, and the way they nerfed some characters was soooo heart breaking. i went into arcade mode cuz it was my favorite mode to play and I played the ffa deathmatch mode that switches your character every time you get a certain amount of kills. i got pharah, right, and BRO WHAT DID THEY DO TO HER?!?!?! I did not like pharah cuz she was annoying to play against, but my goodness they nerfed the crap out of her flying. i couldn't stay in the air for longer than 2 seconds. i felt sooo bad for pharah mains. jeez. and then i stopped playing the game again until overwatch 2 came out, and IT WAS EVEN WORSE. First of all, they removed free lootboxes. I don't care about the ones you pay for, those can leave. I loved getting the free ones tho. It felt like I was being rewarded for playing the game and for leveling up. And then there's the characters. Why did they remove Orisa's shield? Doesn't her story literally explain that she's a robot created to protect people???? Did they update her story or something? What happened? At least they didn't mess with my boy Junkrat however i only use him in ffa deathmatch, so it doesn't really matter that much.
what makes me even more sad is that overwatch 1 got neglected for years because they were working on making the pve and stuff for overwatch 2, and then once it was time for overwatch 2 to come out, none of these things were implemented into the game, and now the suffering other people endured (not me cuz i didn't play during the hard times) for the promise of a brighter future was all for nothing.

i understand wanting low visibility in games, but sometimes these games take it too far and then I can't see anything. fog is fine as long as it's not too much. darkness is the absolute worst thing ever. i hate it soooooo much. this why i did not like the addition of the warden in minecraft. yeah it's interesting, but i hate being blinded. especially the pulsing blindness the game does every time you trigger a sculk shrieker. that pulsing animation messes with my eyes. i rarely ever go in the sculk biomes because of this. it's annoying. plus, we're already underground; it's dark enough down there, you don't need to make it darker. it doesn't help that they removed our ability to increase the brightness of the game by going into the game files and manually increasing the gamma to max on the file of the world you're playing on. i never really did that, but i don't like that the option is now gone.
How many new players does WoW get? I remember trying WoW for the first time like 3 years ago and to me the game felt so old and outdated that it was unplayable for me. In my mind people who say that game is good are only people who played it back in the day and everything else just doesn't feel right for them. Am I crazy? Should i maybe play WoW more than the 3 hours I played it and said "this is garbage". Not hating just giving my opinion
If ashes of creation is our last hope then we're all fucked. The game is not bad, but it is far from an above-average game.

City of Heroes had WoW beat in multiple ways during WoW launch era, but most people slept on it for Blizzard. WoW was great, and CoH not everyone's cup of tea, but to claim WoW was miles ahead of everything at the time is incomplete.

I loved EQ over WOW. But I did move from EQ to WOW when I beta tested WOW lol. I loved the fact in EQ if you died you had Consequences, and if you Explored In a higher lvl zone without being Cautious there where Consequences. WOW just made it all to easy 🙁
Re: people needing to "figure out" the next gimmick or system or hardware that turns into the "next best thing" for MMOs: VR. The answer is literally in front of our eyes.
I think MMO's have lost their immersion. Over the top spell visuals and systems have ruined the RPG in MMORPG.
39:05–39:35 yes you do, just like you know the tech aint here yet, only a phew of us understand the scope of how large vanilla WoW was and the "type of MMO" that would have to surface to gain that same scope. You know the tech of which i'm talking about and its just not at a level to be used or distributed to the public at a box cost of $1000 to $2000.
Asmon really needs to play sea of thieves. It’s exactly what he is talking about in terms of real tension. There is actual tensions with raiding ships and stealing loot. I feel like he’d understand what would make a good caravan system if he at least watched a couple videos of sea of thieves.
Guild wars was awesome, It was very tactical! You had to plan ahead, pvp was the best at that time, pve was just ok, I think Asmon never tried Guild Wars PvP, he would have a different opinion I'm sure

wasn't classic wow peak player count 14 mil? i saw a stat recently that ffxiv hit 21 mil in a single month last year and has been at least 17 mil consistently since… and considering how saturated the video game market is now a days, id say ffxiv is more popular than classic ever was. I remember when classic came out, that was the ONLY game people were playing. Now there are so many games, that its more impressive to come close to classic numbers now. And me and others joined classic just to be social with friends since social media wasnt really a thing back then.
The only thing I hate about this game, is that it will require a monthly sub to play…
wow was crap too, but back then you had to choose between 5 pieces of shit and it stank the least. so it got big, but some games are objectively better with less players because the mmo player base got more spread as other games came out. Games wont be as big because there are so many games now. Just like with streaming services, Netflix was the goat but now that everyone has their own service, it will never be as universal.

A lot of the game looks really good.
However, that combat is absolutely abysmal. Steven is basing a lot of this game off of Archeage where I would argue has some of the best tab targeting combat any MMO has released.
i think new world was such a good game at its core. Had they just had more it poured more content into it before releasing it, i think it would still be doing well.
I didn’t play WoW in its prime and after playing Lineage 2, WoW felt really boring and pointless.
You will never get the old MMO experience anymore, you won't but new MMO young gamers can have that. The reason why you don't have that epic MMO experience anymore is because your age. We are just old now and don't immerse ourselfs anymore.
I'm coming to realize that I just don't want to play the same game that Asmongold wants to play. His ideas about what MMOs should be is just stuck on WoW and he should just go play that forever if that's all he wants. : /
I don't think Asmon should develop an MMO but he should consult on all of them.
I think the next big revolution in gaming will be generated content. Where the games are generated by AI as you play them and dynamically react to the player.
WC3 sold us on the story and universe, on top of WoW's next-gen nature at the time.
