  1. Mine was WoW before Blizzard changed how skills worked. I main-ed a PvP a Shockadin for years. I 100% owned the combat field. I could AoE and DD and heal myself in almost any situation. I was pure pawnage.

  2. Mobas have some sick and satisfying AoEs for me…
    Dota 2 mostly.

Invoker Chaos Meteor, Kunkka Torrent (so satisfying when it lands), Bloodseeker's Blood Rite, Keeper of the Light Illuminate, Dark Seer Vacuum, Warlock's Chaotic Offering, Timbersaw's Chakram, Omniknight's Purity, Lich Chain Frost, Magnus Skewer, Tiny Avalanche, Ember Spirit Sleight of Fist, Juggernaut Omnislash, Every Earthshaker skill and so on….

  3. You provoked a thought; When Rogue's do have AOE capability in MMO's. That also usually means, they are able to fight toe to toe a little more than Your old school Thief, or Rogue because from my experience in Gw2/ESO/Neverwinter/Black Desert. Rogue/Rogue like classes with AOE attacks come in the form of upfront damage, hits less than the single target stuff. Furthermore.. if You go into that further, they need evasive manoeuvres out of stealth to go along with that going with those examples. This opens up the Rogue after popping out of stealth and administering their attacks, because they can "stick around" a go toe to toe a bit more. Or survive better if caught off guard from someone getting the jump on them.

So My theology is…. If You give Rogues AOE, it's a net positive. Just make sure it hits less than the single target attacks.

With Ashes I think that, this kind of Rogue would open up more options that would allow it to be complimented by a Fighter or Mage or Ranger secondary. Maybe beef up Your AOE while still having stealth. Or You could go Rogue/Rogue and be all about single target blow Your CDs on one target with a little bit of AOE, rinse and repeat and have the ultimate stealth.
