So with the newest Ashes of Creation Update blowing alot of our minds… there was a subset of people who were actually quite jaded by what was shown. Today I wanna address this and discuss the game’s progress so far, highlighting the purpose of these updates and why we enjoy following it.
Video is ever so slightly late (3 hours) but FEAR NOT! For I have already finish the next video… I just wanted to get this one out tonight to address these community concerns.
Why not come give your feedback in our discord as well so we can put you straight and then ban you for disagreeing with us: https://discord.gg/muwNp8NhbB

Bro, yo real good at these edits!
This month's livestream was pretty underwhelming. I think Intrepid lost the plot in what they wanted to showcase this month. If it was the Cleric and its abilities they wanted to showcase, then I am sorry to say it was a big let off. Constant spam of 3-4 abilities and nothing really groundbreaking in terms of (current) mechanics. Long story short, the class was simply not ready to showcase and it needed to be in a way better state. Now, if it was a new zone with a bit of combat and class interaction they wanted to showcase, then again mediocre at best. Very confusing livestream. I completely understand this is alpha but this game is clearly AT LEAST 2-3 years away from release and I am afraid that at such a slow development pace the hype is going to die out eventually.
The reason why I was not that impressed by this update has nothing to do with Ashes. I dont like the cleric archetype.
It showed some cool features that were well polished, but It felt lacking.
No one has really commented on the synergy system, that alone made me shout for joy and how far I hope they take it. It would be really cool for end game content and tactic's for synergy skills and abilities to stack up 4 times or so, a group could really be rewarded for getting to max synergy and when they hit max synergy for end game levels there should be something like an ultimate that just wrecks, I so wont to see this Please and its all Ashes and narcs fault lol. Thanks Ashes and thanks Narc.
Is it worth to buy into alpha or wait?
you'll wait 10 years!? yeahh no
We need better looking armor… where's half nuded girls , for real brutal dudes something with spikes, rolling , spitting from sides shit or etc…. I hope variety will be there
I'm from gw2 and i will not be sold until they can make character animations(movement, casting) feels as fluid as gw2. I will not downgrade in combat.
I like they are making an amazing world and systems but my personal feeling is that they should make characters animations and movement fluid first then the world because getting animations wrong and then being stuck with them is extremely easy since the scope of the game is so big.
To me it looks like they are making character animations just like the games they played and not the industry's best, they could use some more innovation just in this regard.
Everything other than animations was great.
Post Alpha and pre-Alpha2 shirley?
Great vid as always – great development update/showcase – Alpha2 cant come soon enough for me.
Ye I think most negativity is coming from the actual game play not looking fluid, like you said animations are janky (like when mobs hit their model moves into the players model and than jumps back) , enemies are not really engaging, just piles of HP with very few mechanics, and maybe the world looks like it is empty, there is nothing outside the mobs they kill.
And personally from my point of view – the nameplates obove the mobs just ruin all the immersion, they provide almost no information, and look not coherent to the world, they either should be removed or provide actual useful information like HP and other stats.
Maybe the showcase was not about this but people see what they are shown, and they were shown gamplay and people saw game play as a whole.

"pEoPlE aRe hAvInG a HaRd tImE kEePiNg uP wItH tHe dEvElOpEmEnT pRoCeSs" LOL, who cares. Gaymers think they need to know everything and have control over the devlopment process… which they know nothing about and constantly have bad opinions on. I don't know any project that has benefitted from backseat drivers (aka "the community") having a say in anything that goes on. Gaymers don't even know what they want half the time… they'll demand some feature and complain about it later.
Developers walk a tightrope, they have to pretend they're giving information and access to the community so the neckbeards are happy (because pretending to know about game development and demanding their pet features like manbabies is easier than handling their own messed up lives), while quietly ignoring most of it and trying to get work done without too much interference.
You go Intrepid, make the game YOU want… if you do that well, it will have an audience. You can never make everyone happy… that is why, when engineering and creating, the best thing is stay true to yourself. If you do that, you will be a success. 👍
That intro!
Until you said the words, the idea of being burnt out on a game that doesn't even exist yet never even occured to me. We live in strange times.
Honestly, Intrepid should stop showing every tidbit of information or tech that they instill in the game. Everyone just stop watching the livestreams.
Seeing multiple people on screen before the end of the year was a huge win in my books, with nearly 6 months of live streams with just Stevens avatar on screen the party dynamic was a huge win for me personally.
The rough around the edges bits are never enough to derail this hype train! Wheezing inhale
Is this the secretely the new season of dragon ball?
while it makes us jump in joy everytime u upload a video, don't overdose too much narc! we need u for the alpha 2!
I don’t like the spells effects. They should be more subtle. Right now every spell has some shiny, sparky, colorfull animation – imo its overkill and feels a like an Eastern mobile MMO. Theres already too much flickering watching party of 3. Imagine watching stream of an Castle Siege with 500 participants
The only "bad" thing for me was just some animations being not so good looking Iike the way the dogs move like they are lagged, or the capes animation while on horseback… But this is understandable if it's still alpha. I just hope these things get polished later on, so that everything feels like unreal engine 5 should look. Everything else was fucking amazing… The ambience of the zone and the way the alpine forest is designed gives a lot of inmersion… I love inmersion
These intros become better and better!
I was relieved to see how the combat worked in a group. Based on the previous showcases I was afraid that the combat would turn out to be lightning fast, huge packs of monsters at once and encounters takes less than 5 seconds like BDO and Lost Ark. I was so happy to see that the combat was nicely paced and the skill synergy reminded me about Final Fantasy XI (11) weapon skill chains and I hope they develop it further.
There was a limited selection of skills for each class to use and I don't really understand why that seems to be a deal breaker for some people. I really like the fact that Intrepid wants to keep many things hidden from the community in order to protect the element of exploration and discovery when the game releases. And these live stream showcases are just that: sneak peaks. I hope Intrepid can still hold on to their own and now jump to the bandwagon of showing stuff too early since the game is still in development. So far they have been smart about what they have and have not shown in the live streams.
Unpopular opinion but, in spite of being a fun journey itself to have such a public open access development process, that's something that will eat the game.
People want a studio to make a good game that's completed on release so it can be played feeling new and with a sense of exploration and novelty.
When AoC finally comes out, people will be playing it like "oh yea, this quest/mob/zone is just like in alpha 1, 2, 3 with minor changes x, y, z… plow through it and are bored with it.
The last showcase was pretty nice. Only things I was a bit worried about are the imho too colourful spell effects (visibility with a lot of players in an area or raid?), the fact that it seems that they gather the mobs and mostly use aoe to kill them and the respawn rate of the mobs (I am sure it was increased for the livestream).
Edit: Also the night was not dark enough (yes I know three moons would provide more light at night).
I need the worldbuilding/storytelling/etc from the western world and the combat-fighting style/feeling from eastern Games (BDO, Lost Ark, Archage2) combined
10years is kind of copium, i'd like to play before we go back to stone age ;), also keep the good vibes, don't submit yourself to redditors
Brilliant
The update looked really good, only thing im worried about is the mace animations, it looks like an autoattack that forces your character forward, this would feel very clunky in combat
Damn what a cliffhanger
The cleric support is force into a certain combat system… that’s sad
I mean, it’s simply different strokes for different folks. I had high hopes for this game when it very first got announced. Since then my hopes have died and rotten away. I do have a lifetime sub for it, so obviously if it turned into something I’d enjoy that would be dandy, but I don’t like the artwork to begin with. I don’t like my games being so flashy with glowing gear and mounts, I like more down to earth and gritty aesthetics. And the combat doesn’t look pleasing to me either. Getting jumped by 3 wolves at 9:52 and all of them dead by 10:02, if I can shit on 3 mobs in 10 seconds, that’s not what I had hoped for at all. I hoped for a dangerous open world, where death lurks behind every corner if I don’t tread carefully. So, obviously this game is not meant for me and that’s okay.
The game needs a clear artstyle. Right now it looks like a collection of run-of-the-mill assets with few execptions. It looks generic. It really needs a clear art-style-direction. Even Guild Wars 2 managed to have that with a pseudo brush-painted look of the UI. WoW has the very iconic comic style that leans toward the Pixar style mix of nearly realistic and comic-proptioned characters. Ashes looks bland. Yes, Unreal 5 helps to make things look detailed and shiny, but not stylish. Also the focus should be extremely on the way the gameplay feels. If it's sluggy and feels unresponsive it will fail. Gameplay>everything. Literally everything.
Bro this intro was next level jesus
14:50 Lushy should stay away from Alpha 2. I don't want that kind of person's input going to the devs. "Listen toooo MEEEE. I can pick out everything that needs to be fixed." Wtf? Narcassitic a**hole.
well, this update brought back my concerns about game's combat. I know it's still alpha and all, but I couldn't help feeling how the combat is catered to suit my grandma's playstyle.
Only bad thing about this was having to watch stevens gameplay 😀
I was watching some of Asmons reaction to the dev update and its always funny seeing wow players (his chat) complain about graphics in other games, when the graphics in WoW are probably the worst ive ever seen
