  1. My two cents about potions would be – let them be used in combat etc. It shouldn't replace a healer in terms of healing power.

My personal idea for making the game not a potion chugging fest is the way 'Witcher 3' did their potions and elixirs. The more intense the effect of the potion and elixir the bigger the toxic side effect.
For example if they use Lineage 2 greater healing potion it's a 15 second heal over time with (8 second cd). Let's say you can only use 5 in a row with no downtime. The 6th potion would not be usable, because of the toxicity threshold that takes time to go away over time.

Lineage 2 also had very strong elixir (30% ish hp) that are 5 min cooldown that would fill the toxicity to 85% and you gotta wait for toxicity to go down before able to use potions again. Also if the toxicity is at 30% the elixir is a no go.

Higher grade potions can move the hp gained and toxicity a bit so you can use 8 potions with 10sec effect time

  2. It's hard to tell how much they are needed until we get max level potions for a max level character. I do agree that they should not be interchangle with direct heals, even those from a secondary archtype healer or bard. I see them more used for heneral adventuring, but nothing very taxing.
