So the long anticipated tank show case was today, and I’m not sure, but I don’t think it hit home. I saw a lot of people rating the stream as an 8 or a 9, and honestly I think this is the sort of white knight behavior that kills a game. Developers like Intrepid Studios are using transparent development so that they can get feedback on early iterations. The problem is, it appears as if Intrepid is listening to a vocal minority, or more specifically only listening to those people who are saying what they want to hear. Meanwhile, the people who are being critical, even sometimes too critical, the ones who are trying to help Intrepid get true vector checks are being shut down by the white knights who believe every single thing Intrepid showcases is solid gold. Let’s face reality right now, not everything that Intrepid pushes out is solid gold. If you continue to be a rah-rah cheerleader and give Intrepid the thumbs up, you are going to be kicking yourself when the final product comes out and it’s bad.

Solid Vid, and agreed interested to see the changes they make for tomorrow’s video hopefully it can be a chance for them to take that first step back on track
Hard to disagree, if you have to re record it, and most of the stuff you show is "we're not sure, maybe", then what's the point of showing it?(I get it it's Alpha, but still) I would prefer a short video of Steven fooling around and showing cool stuff like the grass and art (which is top notch), and then maybe take longer in Q&A.
If they learn from this, then it wasn't a total waste of time, if not… well, there is a lot of other stuff to look for as you mentioned.
What's the game you mentioned in UE5 by Amazon? Blue Protocol?
This Livestream was so bad, that for the first time, I closed it mid way.
What a mess….
A Tank update showcase, but than they talk about loot, trading, UI, etc.
Waste time killing mobs to obtain the required loot.
Keep dying from pretty much lack of skill and planning.
A video showcase that should have lasted 15 mins, wasted everyone's time by 1 hour.
Calling the delay on the livestream "technical difficulty", having mods from Discord saying that "no, they are not recording the video", to then Steve admitting, that it was exactly what they were doing.
It was without a question, the worst livestream of Intrepid in the last couple of years and very disrespectful to the community.
For me, Steven presence on the livestream is great, specially for the Q&A and Studio updates etc.
However, Steve is really bad on these showcases, never sticks to a plan, divagates a lot with random stuff, as such should allow someone else to do them, some that has the time to plan and execute something proper, at the level of quality that Intrepid seems to want to transmit with this game.
And yes, if there is nothing significantly to show on a specific month, just skip it.
I feel that more and more, its pointless to watch the livestream and I rather just watch a summarized and objective video about it, if that.
In the end, I'm really glad I didn't back this game with the toxic Alpha packs, the clear main focus from Intrepid over the last 6 months… sell sell sell.
How this works? He barely gets the aggro.
as a tank main in every mmo i have ever played this makes me really nervous about how the game is going to come out
Today Intrepid showcased hands down, the worst tank in an MMORPG that I have seen in over 25 years of mining a tank or tank-like class. Previously their tank was rough but it had potential, I wouldn't even call what was showcased today a dps tanking. The cleric in the video did more tanking than the tank class, heck even the ranger held agro better than the tank and stayed alive longer.
It was far more than just a problem in threat mitigation, I have zero desire or interest in playing a tank if this is any representation of how tanks will play. On top of everything Intrepid did yet another showcase of something that's barely past the concept stage, none of the resources or stats have been "figured out yet".
They released at least four tank showcase social media posts complete with jpegs, yet for the last thirty days no one thought to record the actual showcase video footage and edit it. Even so far as to delay the antici[ated live stream over two hours in order to record 4 dudes horsing around, the tank in the tank showcase didn't even have tank gear or weapons and had to pick them up from loot drops. This resulted in showcasing that contrary to what intrepid has said for years, the majority of items are in fact not tradeable. You will of course have to forgive me for not believing Margret Krohn when she claimed that "not being able to trade items is a known bug" after the numerous times she lied to the community and was caught in that lie only to ban community members who ask about it or delete questions about it like it never happened.
I will agree that this livestream appeared rushed and incoherent. The tank can't hold agro but may be able to in higher levels, huh? Demonstrating a tank's active blocking without a shield? There was too much going on to even see what the abilities were, all I could see was a whirlwind.
I get it, they wanted the style to represent gameplay that is why they did not have the equipment needed and why they wiped a few time. I would perfer they go back to the demonstrations of the abilities and.if there is a synergy then show two characters.
Sigh, Jahlon is here with the facts as always. I hope they take your feedback into consideration.
I mean my gosh, where the F was a shield. A tank with a shield should be able to pull off almost complete invulnerability at least for a short while. Where was the TANKING
This is 100% on point and agree completely. This was such a cluster that i now have concerns much like you have shared. So much so i went and hammered home the point on the forums. I hope they get mad and offended too just like you said it. long hard look in the mirror is needed
You're a real one and I've always loved that about you. This is what Intrepid needs to hear, and I agree with you completely. The players suffer in the end if the game isn't the best it could possibly be. Keep doing what you're doing man, you've got bravado.
You are 100% right. I have been disappointed in the past few live streams. Mainly because I was wanting the showcases, but they were "lets plays."
spitting facts.
Think the order you went over information here was a bit strange. You went pretty hard on the critcism before going into the problems, was put off for a while but I knew you'd get there.
i agree with you on they should use the old original method of showing abilities and animations. Unfortunately, I'm not a good source of feedback for combat. I imagine hard core raid players and PvP players would be a better judge of that. However, crafting, creature taming, and husbandry I can definitely give input.
I agree. This gameplay showcase was revolting. Downright sickening combat animations and mechanics. My main gripe is that the attacks had no weight or momentum to them. 🤢
They should rename the video as "Goofy gameplay" instead of Tank showcase. The lack of structure in this video was disrespectful and, as you said, a waste of time. I agree with all of you, they need to go back to the showcase style of the old videos and Focus in what is needed to show and the information they need to deliver.
All I want is a good foundation that is both fun and optimized at launch. It being an MMO gives it an excuse that most other game genres don't have which is that it doesn't have to release complete at launch. In fact I'd say bugs and wacky stuff happening only adds to the experience that will make the launch more memorable. Hopefully their hubris being instigated by the "white knights" doesn't get in the way of a good experience.
All your points would be valid if this is the FINAL version. The way THEY do live streams is too off the cuff for you. Not professional, not scripted enough, not up to your standard what you think a "showcase" should be. This isn't even the ALPHA 2 version. They even said at this low of level, tanking aggro mechanics aren't necessarily what "endgame" is going to be like. The eyebrow raising issue for me is gaining and holding aggro. With that said, not everything has to be WOW. When you play D&D, there is a degree of chaos. The "tank" doesn't gather up all mobs and neatly stack them and everything is dispatched in order of most threatening. Maybe some chaos would shake things up a bit. I do agree though on your last point, to keep getting better. When they make ALPHA 2 available, i think a hard hitting, without prejudice critic vid would be very welcomed and interesting. But as far as im concerned, month end live streams are just a little glimpse behind the curtain. They are nice but im saving my judgement for the ALPHA TESTS. just my 2 cents.
I hope steven stops playng for the video and leave somone else do it…
Yeah hard to disagree with you here. Rushed and awkward to watch. The flashy spells and abilities saturated the screen making it difficult to see the tank. Steven, think about just being the facilitator and let someone else drive.
I think that for an ALPHA is ok to have issues, is not a final product
Well said.
mmorpg communities are full of snowflake idiots, that's a problem
They spent more time setting up the drop tables than the presentation. The fact that Steven did not know what the skills were before he played the character was sad. The second reshoot was much better at highlighting what the skills were but as you said at this point the sloppy, rushed livestream is no longer acceptable. Steven may be happy about the 100k alpha 2 testers but alpha tester numbers don't reflect actual players that will give feedback , let alone guaranteed to play at launch. Sunken cost fallacy won't save a bad game upon launch.
This stream just saved me 250 bucks that was just waiting on a decent monthly skins option. But now I'm back to waiting until they show competence and professionalism.
For me this is not tank,we dont see all abilities about taunt, agro spells, but looks more like dmg class + this active block looks bad!Really dont know how this gonna work in raids and dungeons + they need to work alot on animations of spells!Idk how people can say this looks good 😢
Ok
100% agree. With the amount of experience they have with showcasing things I expect a certain level of quality.
This time the audio was so bad that I had difficulties to even understand what Steven & Co. were saying (English is my 2nd language). Impossible to keep attention to that for an hour when the showcase isn't even a coherent showcase.
So I turned off the stream and played some VR games instead because I found that quality just disrespectful to my time and ears.
You are aware this is alpha 1 right?
I think there is a time and a place for both kind of presentations… the original showcases they presented on Alpha 1, were clear and amazing, explaining every skill in a controlled environment is good when you have everything set in stone. This kind of "gameplay showcase" is good to highlight how the archetype will play in game, but it kinda sucks to highlight what every skill does, and it kinda makes sense since I believe there are things that could change between now and the release of Alpha 2.
In my opinion the biggest sin on this presentation was to call it "Tank showcase" it was more of a "Tank gameplay" video. Which is not a bad thing, I think there is value on seeing raw gameplay like this, with nothing scripted, but I WILL need an actual Tank showcase like they did in Alpha 1 at some point before Alpha 2.
It sounds like you are arguing for a whitewash. Staged gamely with no errors, nothing broken. Maybe they were going for transparency and showing a work in progress? If so, they hit the mark.
Interesting. I didnt see the live stream so cant really say. You were spot on about showcase about classes and abilities. I really liked those when showed way back.
I do agree. Personally I don't like Steven doing the showcases. He goes off the rail too easily and rumbles about things that don't matter. Half way through the video between the horrible sound and random things they were doing I just spaced off.
I wish the would do on point showcases. Show me abilities and animations, show me how they look in combat and that's it. I don't need to see the world anymore, we've been seeing it a lot, and it almost feels like that's the only thing they have to show for.
If you even consider newbies, they explained zero about threat, how it works, and what contributes to it. Give me tables, and data.
I agree with you, what an utter disappointing and sad "showcase"! So you tease 1 month in advance what you will show, then you hype for 1 week before the date and end up recording your "showcase" 1h before stream, delaying the whole thing for 2hours! That is unbelievable disrespect of your clients and players time and money!
Second- you go in not knowing the skills lulling around doing a clown job of what you are supposed to present and then backtrack into saying this is your "stream persona" excuse me sir you are CREATIVE DIRECTOR and CEO presenting your PRODUCT to your current and possibly future CLIENTS , it's neither the time nor the place to be a CLOWN!!!
Third you rushed and served such a turd that instead of having the testicular fortitude ( 🙂 ) and apologize you start right away with the excuses "This isn't lvl 50 game play, that's why the aggro was all over the place instead on the tank, you guys!" Seriously, seriously??? So a tank at lvl 14 in lvl 12-14 pt can not hold aggro? So tank needs to be what lvl 50 to be able to do its job? It needs to have the gear dropped from the mobs ( I thought we were supposed to drop mats and not finished gear wtf?) to be able to do its job of tanking, seriously?
That stream and presentation was a joke and a spit in the face of the players, and if ppl don't hold Intrepid to higher standards, don't go and whine that you end up with a trash product, you made it so yourselves, with white knighting and acceptance of the crap they sprung last minute as a 8-9 stream?
Mediocrity doesn't breed excellence!
Yesterday was painful. There were some bright moments, but it was hard to watch. In fact, I fell asleep for the first time EVER watching it! That speaks volumes to me!
As unplasant as it is, you are right.
Intrepid needs to step it up to face the incoming presentation.
I still feel that Steven has too much to do. And he is spreading too thin.
They need a game director… 🤔🤔
The 1 h video was bad but at least it showed some low level gameplay from the tank and i was really satisfied with it. Could've been shown in 1/4 of the time tho. It was a filler stream for me.
Great video, and I fully agree. I did not enjoy watching this livestream, it only left me with a bunch of questions. These type of videos were fine back in early alpha when they just showed general gameplay in an extremly early state, but at this point we need to get a clear idea of what the intended gameplay is and what each system entails. I just keep getting more and more worried by each livestream at this point there needs to be a change
actually they rerecorded the video a second time all the way through and it was way better. Its on their youtube. He talked about the each ability separately. you spoke too soon! lol They listened and fixed it right away. the second video is better. They even killed the boss at the end. They were all in syn as well.
I was so angry yesterday since I'm a main tank.
Just watched the re-recording, much better. If they had released the redo originally none of this heat would have started.
Yesterday was so bad there were people from one of the large guilds (A PI no less) was linking invites to their Throne and Liberty discord they just started. Will they come back? Maybe. But right now their eyes turn to T&L.
Yesterday I felt like throwing up for a lot of reasons, I'll just mention the fighting, waiting and tank gameplay. I'm really disappointed and I have the impression that they are happy with what they did because they only listen to a part of the community…
