Let’s watch Narc’s recent video, in which he declares he’s leaving Ashes of Creation, and discuss this in the context of the topics and games we’ve discussed on this channel.

Here’s my other video I mention in this video in which I discuss the lengthy development times of Ashes of Creation and Star Citizen:

  1. Narc's video looks like he encountered a loading glitch in the desert and lost his marbles over it.

I've had planets in SC remove all assets right after I landed and I just laughed it off, never made me go "This planet is a lie, I must remove this game from my computer".

Probably cause I know what an Alpha is.

  2. As someone who is a software engineer. No… This is not how games are normally developed. You dont develop assets before a playable version of the game. You develop the systems first and assets LAST. This is why these open developement games will always fail. Because they spend most of their time trying to make the game look visually appealing so people will buy in. Rather than actually doing the work

  3. I didn't know that Ashes was as ambitious as that, now you got me interested! And I just do not have time for another game! Notwithstanding entering another emotional rollercoaster of the sort a high ambition game in development means! Nope! No, I will not! I can not! I should not! 😂

  4. 2:40 I mean the issue is that Steven saying that he puts in most of his money builds trust. Thats the selling point that might have got lots of people hooked. Which I cant understand why it now feels like a betrayal. Especially because 250 isnt cheap asking price. PoE2 asks for 30$. Maybe, if you know that MMOs are expensive and complex software development in general overruns budgets and you dont have the money then dont do such a project to begin with? Now the consumer is getting fucked again even thought that wasnt set out to be the case. Its just turning into AAA. Just wait for more community backlash and they will close their communication doors more and more until its just another company trying not to be liable when shit hits the fan.

  5. I agree with the negativity. I too felt like I may start a more moderate channel. I hail from a different time I guess and don't see the need allow these games to affect my mood to that degree.

  6. People harping on the referral program keep thinking they get cash out of it…. It's just the store currency you get when it launches. So sure, they're getting money to buy future cosmetic items.

  7. "They have the fund the game somehow." I'm a game developer and the funding is something i take care off. The moment the funding is from players you need to accept you will get shit on. Assuming otherwise is silly and shows they are terrible with handling expectations.

I personally think the bad sides of ashes are still coming. They will now be stuck in not being able to make drastic changes which they been doing for years. It will not go well.

  8. Just because someone took a major risk its ok for this someone to be dishonest to consumers?
I'm shure what CIG is doing is ilegal in lots of countries. Here in Brazil its obviously ilegal in regards of consumer rights.
My thing is, can you innovate without lying to people?
Ps. I love your content Grolo.

  9. I can say CIG for all their faults is very tolerant of users venting frustrations or criticisms on their forums. While SC has a referral program anyone can participate in it and there are no cash kickbacks on all purchases from referrals like an Amway pyramid scheme. AoC monetization doesn't make sense to require such a large initial buy in. If they truly have the server capacity for thousands already, I would want to make it as accessible as possible to get those tuned and build up the community and get more potential backers. SC server meshing is in preview lane now and the meshing itself works but all the backend systems have to be reworked to leverage it. To keep transit stable they are staying around 5-600 players but have 10 servers meshed across 2 solar systems and brought the NPCs to life.

  10. here is the thing (im a game designer myself), majority of players and buyers will take info at face value and will base there decision based upon that, devs knows that, its there job to communicate that clearly, instead they would rather sell DREAM instead of current state of the project, goes to show, value profit more than consumers. in other words a scumbag move, that is not only false advertisement, but also manipulation and borderline robbery. No Man Sky open the door of lets take money now, and create the product later with all the money we got, and if it fails, its not our money we wasted business model. Like we dont have enough of abuse already from "microtransaction's", gambling, p2w, day one dlc, pre-orders, ads.. and a gazillion of other BS to deal with as gamers. Dear GAMERS, you have the POWER, dont buy in to anything until you are 100% convinced, in other words, you buy pre-order you get a D in your mouth ~Cartman

  11. You can make videos all months long and in circles about the details (and youtuber WILL do so), but aside from "Ashes of Creation" and "alpha or not"… people are sick to death to be asked for (a lot) of money and get almost nothing in return. The key selling was borderline fishy and if you charge up to 400$ there should be at least "something" in the game.
    Just common sense

  12. Star Citizen is a rip off (already over spent for what is available). As for Ashes of Creation there is already a superior MMO called GW2 that you can play for free or pay a little for the expansions (no subscriptions), and you can use in game currency to buy stuff.

  13. The biggest problem with this project is way too ambitious, for an indie studio, trying to make a game like its a triple A and have literaly nothing to show for in 8years it says alot, go less ambitious for now, reduce the costs, think what system u must have on release and that is it, cause if we waiting for it to drop with all the things he mentions its gonna take atleast 14 more years until its done, its very sad potencial being throwed around like this cause of lead dev that cant control himself, this is why i only support thing that have solid foundation.

  14. The guy says full breath he is only here to make fun of the state of the game in its current development. He found that negative feedback was winning people’s view vs being positive. Bad news sells the best and it’s human nature to tune into the bad things. What’s being done right is ignored.

As a contractor I view the game has a building that has had a foundation poured and the framing has been placed but the drywall and other key feature that make a building beautiful and functional are missing. The chaos in the process is what most people never get to see. This is why contractors don’t allow clients on site.

Great take and even handed approach.

  15. I understand you need to find the game but, even though it’s early access it shouldn’t be priced and the product didn’t have much amount of content or value. Atleast add a lot of content to test the game out its what early access is for

  17. This was a great thing to contextualize 18:34 as the other youtuber seems to be choosing a bias viewpoint. But it would be very important to find out if they are using the same assets it seems they arent from your video. This is because often scams or companies that lack technical people will contract some artists, students or indians xD to do a concept and sometimes the company never owed those assets in the first place. Starcitizen engaged in the same tactics but all assets were done by inhouse 3d & concept artists like the bengal carrier & hornet are still in the game and were some of the first assets to be added.

  18. I think google ate my comment.
The long short of it all is that there always be people that want to be contrarian because its easier to say "I told you so" and when proven wrong its easier to go "see a bit of criticism helps". People like Narc and Grumpyeye are what you call perpetual fence sitters. They want their version of the truth to be correct because it means their status goes up.

Its why i firmly believe in starving people like that of visual oxygen.
