Should Intrepid Change the Ashes of Creation Cash Shop Model?

Intrepid Studios ran an amazingly successful Kickstarter campaign back in 2017. They raised over $3.1 million and today remain the most successful KS campaign to date. One of the major concerns that the overall MMORPG community voices about Ashes of Creation is the overpriced monthly founder’s pack, the pay wall that prevents individuals from purchasing individual cosmetics, and the FOMO monthly skins.

At this point, I’m hoping that Intrepid either stops selling monthly cosmetics, or they make it so anyone can buy individual cosmetics without having to put down on the larger pack prices. For a game that has a low barrier to entry, I’m very confused why they keep this high barrier to entry for supporting the game.

As mentioned in the Livestream the new PGN Music Spotify is here: https://open.spotify.com/artist/4qZWTa2bhoPr2AOsANBazT?si=x6ieaWH8S02EmGX6HW6rbQ

  1. Are you arguing over practical/acceptable realism vs virtue signalling ?
Keeping it real is an oft quoted phrase.
It separates those who say what needs to be said, from those that tell you what you want to hear.
    Truth/honesty is appreciated and respected.

I have only two conclusions to draw from the cash shop cosmetics being locked behind beta/alpha access paywall.
    1. Those in alpha/beta actually get the option to see/use those purchased goods in game testing, while those that dont.. have no access to their products, until/if the game launches.
Thats the equivalent of selling 'promises of a (theoretical vapourware) product' rather than 'a (virtualware LMAO) product'. They can now 'prove' that they are creating those mounts etc even if you dont have access to the game to use until the servers are up. Virtualware != Vapourware.
    2. This is how the game was started.. has continued.. and Intrepid really arent bothered too much about the financial optimisation to revisit it. Perhaps they have other things on their mind ?

  2. i would just get rid of the cash shop altogether. i dont mind f2p games having a cash shop, but AOC is not f2p. its got a monthly sub. Id rather have a box priced and a monthly sub, because with a cash shop, all of the cool cosmetics will be for sale only and u wont be able to earn it in game.

  3. Hates fomo, menawhile promoting fomo. Exclusive skins shouldn't be a thing, put a discount for a limited time, then just throw it on the shop. If the game is out, then you can make the argument, buy this skin pack now or lose it for ever, game ain't even close to coming out, tho.
Its basically like buying vaporware ships in Vaporcitizen that increase in price x2 times yearly.

  4. Emagine comming as an outside. Hearing about the game for the first time. Then hear about how long they have done the monthly cosmetics for a game that hasn't been released yet and is still far from being released. It could make the game seem like a scam. And as you say and have said before. The game is allegedly fully funded.
    Yeah the packages seems overpriced.
Then add in they have to be made for the game. Other things could have been made instead. I doubt every single thing that has to be made, has been made for the game. Without all these items that has to be created he could perhaps have fewer artists (or whoever makes them for the game).

  5. As someone that is not willing to pay to test by buying a full package, I would 100% buy some of the cosmetics individually that have shown up in some packs in the past.

  6. I'm just incredibly annoyed at the idea of dozens of themes being locked under "exclusive" banners forever. By the time the game comes out it will be dozens of months, each with a mount, pet, outfit, building skin, caravan skin. And this is coming from someone who kickstarted so it's not like I can't get any of these that I want each month.
