Riot's MMO Vs Ashes of Creation – The Pinnacle of MMORPG Tribalism

Read more about Ashes of Creation ➜ https://ashesofcreation.mgn.tv

Ashes of Creation and Riot’s MMORPG are shaping up to be 2 very different games… One is a labor of Love and the other, a Quality game Made by corperate.
As people are getting desperate for that MMORPG fix… a constant question is being asked: Which MMORPG are you looking forward to the most?
Well In today’s video we’ll discuss this question and create some discussion around the tribalism within the MMORPG genre.

As much as I’m excited for Ashes of Creation – I am interested to see what a revered developer team like Riot can do with an MMORPG… My skepticism overwhelms me but there’s always that slight glimmer of hope that, for once… An MMO released in the current year won’t be completely unplayable.

  2. The only MMO to have ever exist is Ultima Online. When you install the game it ask you what will you do? No story, no class… you are someone and you have possibility to have skill… that it. After that they are theme park and not really MMO. WOW was a really popular theme park, but you can't decide to change camp for horde to alliance, you cannot be a pk red all the time. Also if you have define quest to do. it's not an MMO, it's just a theme park, true MMO have nothing to do except what you choose to do in it.

  3. tribalism is a weird thing. people who consume gaming content are mostly going to think about it in this context, but it's arguably one of the most destructive aspects of society in general. just think about how tribalism affects politics. i think at the root of it, people need to learn how to find pride, happiness, fulfillment outside of their attachment to other people / things / groups. some gamers are investing their entire lives into a game. it's unhealthy for them and the entire gaming industry. and if it's not a game, it's another person, religion, sports team, company, country. but you'll never regret investing in yourself and things in your control

also, regarding the issue you brought up about wow's convenience features. i don't think those features are inherently a mistake. it just depends on the game you intend to make. the problem with blizzard is they try to cater to player types that can't possibly all be satisfied. either have a slow, immersive game designed to incentivize positive social interactions or an instant-play, super accessible, content focused game. wow is mostly the latter now, but not far enough to do that kind of game well imo

  4. Well, Riot has their fan base…can they make a good mmo? Most likely, will it have p2w allover it? Yep, and for that I won't touch it. I wish them the best, but I just see it aimed for the real young crowd from watching the Netflix series. It was good, but meh…not up alley. When I think about it, this will be the true WOW clone and they will bet the farm on their existing lore to carry them. I think the only thing they will reach out on his action combat, otherwise they are going to play it safe.
I do commend Riot for their outreach into other mediums….BUT whose to say that Ashes won't do the same thing? Steven is a die hard Pathfinder guru…I bet we see an ttrpg spring up, maybe some novels, hopefully some comic books or a few graphic novels.
Like I've always said before, Steven is NO dummy and I can't wait to see what all he's got in store for his flagship game and future.
Hell, he hasn't even spent one dime on marketing and look how big Ashes is already…..
    Keep the great vids coming.

  5. I think the Riot MMO will be pretty legit. It will have a massive audience.. larger than Ashes most likely, but mostly people who are already followers of riot games. As popular as those games are, I don't actually know many people who actually play League, etc. There isn't a 1:1 overlap for every MMO's audience. Riot will likely have more of a straight up theme-park with a very well developed story, but Ashes will still be the haven for the neckbeard masses who want the sandbox community driven content ashes is built around.

  6. I just want a good mmo. I don't care the company. But if i must put my trust….i choose Intrepid. For many reasons! One of which is that it's not giant corporate with shareholders….and the team is among the player base. They play MMOs!

  7. in wow's case having a lfg is great for dead servers or dead faction servers and not having to look for tanks and heals for 35mins to an hr looking for people who dont even socialize once you get in the dungeon. saving time will always out weight the socialize aspect of the game.

  8. My interest is more targeted to MMO players that are creating a MMO than a Moba company making a MMO. Lets be honest Valorant is garbage and if the MMO has the same community as LOL it will put WOW's community to shame which is saying a lot. Not to mention that Riot has a history of bending to its streamer base when making decisions which will not be good for a MMO.

  9. I always find fun when people say Ashes of creation has public interest, that game is destined to fail imo, and if by some miracle it garners an audience It will forever be at the bottom of most other mmos, including probably next Riot mmo, that is sadly the truth

  10. We can only hope for both games to attract a high number of monthly players. With a competitive marked both companies will seek to make innovative gameplay to make their game the best.
    Let's go Riot and Intrepid!

  11. So long as ashes will be what it promises, I don't expect to touch riot's mmo. We as consumers, need to start putting our money and our time into games that deserve it. Not games that are released purely for profit. I don't expect the Riot MMO to have pay to win mechanics, but I don't expect it to be an actual soul project either. I want an mmo I can play for the next x amount of years of my life.

  12. AOC all the way. The passion is to make a great MMO not a great profit. It has been said and shown that this is Intrepid's goal. Yes, I'm aware of the Alpha key and cosmetic packs. Its HELP if you want to items. Plus they only need so many Alpha players and they want those players to be serious about helping test the game so I'm good with the high prices. Alpha is not meant for everyone to just try out the game. Wait for Beta to try out the game. Be careful of other so-called passion projects whose goal is to achieve max profits rather than a great MMO because it might just be another item that gathers dust in your garage or attic.

  13. 1:50 Tribalism already has widely agreed upon definitions and is much more than just competition. It is a "us vs them, come hell or high water" mindset more about being "right" than anything else. Someone stuck in MMO tribalism would stick to their game regardless of how bad it is and use whatever mental gymnastics they need to say it is good, like the caricatures at the end of your videos. This is not a healthy competition that fosters growth, but rather a "stick to your guns and shoot down all criticism" mindset, hence why it is called toxic. I am sorry but you are just redefining a word to suit your narrative (or for clickbaitπŸ˜‰).

  14. I have seen zero tribalism about this until this video. Stop, you're the only person who even thought of this. You could've just talked about Riot's mmo without comparison like you do gw2 but of course not. I guess you just want to divide the already small mmo player base over arbitrary stuff for content. That's mighty hypocritical of you.

  15. One MMO is probably a minmum of 3 years away, the other a minimum of 6. One we don't even know the name of yet. I am pretty sure this is the earliest I have ever seen the tribalism between two MMOs start lol. I guess that typifies how many MMO players are not currently playing an MMO and waiting for the "next big thing". I hope for both to suceed as well. Ashes suits my play style more, but Riot…we don't enough anything yet to say either way. Riot has not done P2W recently, but early LOL they did. And Ghostcrawler was responsible for the WOW Token, which was crazy P2W if you ask me. And he refuses to outright deny they will have something similar in the Riot MMO. So I share similar concerns, but still waiting until we actually know tangible things about the project.

  16. Narc whenever you talk about good, nostalgic mmorpgs you rarely mention RuneScape/OSRS and I just want you to know we are one of the most tribalist fan bases out there and giving us our copium by talking about our game positively will automatically increase your viewer positivity by 700%.

Give us the copium we deserve
