Ashes of Creation is an open world MMORPG set in a fantasy environment where you can choose different classes and races to adventure through with your friends. Intrepid Studios is the developer behind the game. They’re technically an indie studio, but their creative director Steven Sharif has a clear vision for his video game: Massively Multiplayer Role Playing Game. He wants to put the massive back in MMO. Exploring dungeons, griding for gear, crafting armor/weapons, learning new spells, and competing in large scale PvP battles. High end PvE such as raids will mainly occur in the open world. Bosses will spawn and roam through the land. Are YOU ready to enter the world of Verra?

Awesome Job as usual Doc!
I'm buying 3 A2 keys cause it's a GREAT VALUE for the money. Call me a dick eater, or a backer, or someone who likes to Donate money to Intrepid that's fine. Diablo got zero bucks, New World got zero bucks, Ultima Online got zero bucks, I'll donate money to who ever the fuck whenever the fuck however the fuck I want. That's the power of MY MONEY.
Resident Professional Dick Eater here. 😛
Thanks for the video JBUrns,. You echoed what my post that set off Asmongold. Smart man! Vhladus seent me to your channel.
When people criticize AoC monetization, AoC defenders or the Copium consumer go to argument is, "nobody forcing you to buy" or "it's to support the game development".. While that reasoning is fine they fail to see the long term damage of supporting this type of greedy monetization to future MMOs.. Supporting this type of monetization will just encourage future game developer to copy what Star Citizen and AoC are doing… 1.Make grandiose promises 2.Upload shiny updates and future plans on youtube. 3. Sell Alpha keys… And if Alpha keys are selling what's the point of releasing the game.? Star Citizen is 13 year old and still in development, AoC is 7 years old and still in Alpha 2.. If Apha 2 keys are selling what's the point of going to Beta? The smart move is to sell Alpha 3 keys.. No need to complete an MMO in 5-6 years if you can sell Alpha keys for 10+ years.. This dude and many AoC defenders haven't realize it yet but they are ruining the future of MMO's.. He has a hat on that says "Make MMOs great again" but he doesn't know he is helping to create the new meta of MMO development.. For now the large gaming companies haven't noticed it yet but when they realize that they can make money selling Alpha keys and FOMO cosmetics for hundreds of dollars without even releasing a game, it would be a bloodbath. Just remember you were supporting, in the future it will be the norms.. So keep ignorantly defending this type of monetization like this dude, if were lucky maybe not only MMO but even single player games will sell Alpha keys too.. I bet GTA 7 will make billions before release if they sell alpha keys..
Thank you for saying something about this; it was getting really aggravating. 'preciate ya Doc 👏
Asmongold is smart enough to understand that a free access to Alpha 2 would bring people that are not interested in the game, which is not what the devs want. They want a limited ammount of people that are willing to do the tests that are needed.
Also, he mentions that there is no reason for the keys prices to be a those specific prices. The ammounts can be justified by comparison to what the company has sold before. If they would sell much cheaper, their oldest supporters would not enjoy it. Maybe Asmongold knew that, or just talked like if he didn't.
Also, Asmongold is being sensationalist. He needs to bring in some drama from time to time for his audience.
Honestly, people complaining about the buy in price are acting super entitled. What they want is the game to be finished now, and not have to pay for it. Well if only we had a time machine.
👏
Just found this channel. Good shit, subscribed
AMEN
I have never seen a bigger cope comment section in my life and this is coming from a guy that bought the 250 imagine saying a 120$ dollar access to an alpha is “fair” or “good idea” jesus christ ppl wake the fuck up and smell the shit sandwich u have been served
The 2 main things that I toke away from Asmon was that he made it seems like people are now upset that the Alpha keys are available to be sold now and that it's way too much money for what you get. My thought on that matter is that it is weird people make it seem like their stance is that they prefer it not to be sold at all if it isn't free. Also, from what I understand Alpha is going to last about 2 years. So, $120 over 2 years is like $5 a month. That is 2 to 3 times less than a normal mmo price.
You represent the voice & opinions of the AOC fanbase that actually knows the game/project deeply at its fundamental level. Get him burnz!
I feel like asmon definitely got lost in the sauce a little connecting his tangent to ashes, nice job putting a quick but quality video out tackling the situation
So nice to see an actual good take based on facts, so much confusion about this being p2w. As it is, I don't get why this is a problem. Don't preorder games. Don't buy alphas/betas. Wait until release, if the is good, great. If not, you haven't wasted a dime. Afaik, this one will be free (no box cost, just monthly sub). Let people with money to throw to the wind test the game if they want. As long as there's no pay to win/convenience/headstart on live, then who cares?
High quality Burns. 👌 I listened to Asmon’s takes and while I agreed with some of his points on communication, though the near-homophobic choice of words always wears thin. I felt like it was a waste of time and energy trying to keep up with his rant once it was off the rails. This response made me feel better about that wasted time. Very well said and I hope Intrepid sees this one first.
I also hope they RE-clarify the level of access key-winners and contest participants received. Steven said that key-winners would “hit have access to subsequent alpha/testing phases.” But I think they need to be very careful about breaking the hearts of people who showed up, baked and shared recipes for a chance to participate in A2 when the very clear messaging from Steven was that A2 would be persistent from the start. Treating them to two months of rocky weekend tests and cutting them off would be incredibly callous and disheartening to see.
Real life isn’t fair. True.
MMOs aren’t either lmao I could give a lot of examples but I won’t. Good points especially about making sure people testing are invested in the core concepts.
This is insanity, I understand that they can’t go back after charging for the first alpha testing phase but the fact that anyone would pay this kind of money to be a test monkey at any point is wild to me. I remember a time when alphas/betas were free because you are the ones providing a service to the company before launch. But if you like burning your money and doing the job for them… live your best life lol.
Hey burns, just wanna provide some clarity on what I think was a false conflict of interest accusation towards asmon.
He no longer plays WoW because of the egregious faults, including monetization he's always been transparent about that.
He can't be a hypocrite for this reason.
Much love, still enjoyed your perspective
Loved the smack down / healing you were putting out there…
Doctors can't compete with a stoner?! lol Hold my stethoscope. (Proceeds to send people to the hospital while bringing the hospital to his team.)
Great video man, thank you for the entertainment.
Well Played.
He criticizes WoW and Blizzard's monetization practices more than anyone. What do you mean by "he still watches a lot of WoW content", so now he can't point out the flaws with AoC without being a hypocrite? He also said he'll buy an alpha key, so what's your point? He's a big streamer. Just seems disingenuous of you. Narc has tried to paint Intrepid Studios in the best light possible from the start yet even he can't overlook it, his last video was spot on I recommend you check it out.
There are so many better ways they could have gone if they needed more funding or more testers, which doesn't seem to be the case so why are they even offering it again?
I'll give them props for not tying it with exclusive skins this time, which is an important reward in an mmorpg. The biggest issue lies with players who aren't content creators who'll pay for it just cause they're that desperate for a new game, just sucks that Intrepid is seemingly preying on that desperation.
1:30 so u create the problem by having ppl buy access to a testing phase, then u say that we cant just have ppl join whitout paying couse we would have to refund,do you see the irony in this explination?
I think in segmenting his 'arguments' to dismantle them you actually just muddled his points into incoherency, while I'm not someone who is raging over their 'alpha keys' decision & pricing, I also think it's fair to dive into the discussion of whether it's a good choice by Intrepid.
During the AMA there were a lot of whiners on both sides of the argument – seeing someone complain about how they paid $250 for a whole pack worth of cosmetics, game time and in game currency and now people can pay 100 bucks for access & how its "NOT FAIR" is hilarious, The packs they brought where essentially to support the making of the game and were rewarded with all those aforementioned bonuses, whereas $120 just to TEST the game – nothing else – kind of rubs me the wrong way if I'm honest. you can't say that price tag just to TEST a game is abit over the top & if they can get away with it, just wait and watch other gaming companies follow suit
I once heard of this barrier to entry one could utilize when seeking others to do work for them. I thought it was called an application.
No, I was mistaken, I meant an invoice.
Still I think intrepid should just say that they need more money, that’s why it cost and then there would be literally 0 problem.
Well you dropt 2 this good sir.. my jaw and here is your mic back :O I also find it funmy that ppl who make large amount of money of there ranting vids dare to complain about other monetization methods.
Good composure and mannered talk, love to see it! I agree sometimes with asmongold, but there are things that I hardly disagree with him and I'm so tired of seeing these truemen sucking his content and trying to justify his words, on which he thinks he is competent, but he is not. Just because you can articulate words in a specific way and makes you look smart, doesn't mean you are right. And that's what he is doing and a lot of people agree with his statements most of the time, blindly. He should stop covering so many things and stick to specific topics he is knowledgeable and not give his opinion on things that can change the course for the negative, because a lot of people are truing around him, even if he just spews words that makes his audience explode like a fountain of emotions from their crotch just hearing him, even if he is in the wrong.
The narrative/sentiment I'm not a fan of, which is somewhat understandable since most people aren't that in the know, is the fact of calling the pricing "greedy". It's not like they are making any actual profit from this, at most it subsidies the cost for hosting A2 + maybe some portion of salary for their employees, but even that is not true if the alpha lasts 2+ years, unless they get an ungodly amount of players as testers. I do wish Intrepid, when presenting all of this, focused more on why they can't host this for free, acknowledge the high pricing compared to normal games, and frame the keys as "supporter" purchases for the development.
The game can go frick themselves. Not buying. And it already has a p2w/microtransaction reputation now. The regular folks see it as p2w/high monetization already.
Alpha and beta should be free, period. I can't believe you're defending this crap.
Another banger, sir
Wait, why is Asmon talking about ashes? I thought he was a politics react youtuber.
Jokes aside, the guy got the current gaming industry problems mixed with ashes, he probably doesn't know A2 is going to last for years, and he didn't watch the part of the stream where Steven talked about the costs of hosting…
Tho I agree with Asmon on one thing, Steven should have been upfront about needing the money, for the server hosting at least, the minute he showed the prices, not at the end of the stream, not on reddit post, he should have explained that right during the presentation of the new key sales.
