Phase 1 of the Alpha 2 for Ashes of Creation is almost over and already players are dying for the game to release even in it’s currently unfinished state.

That’s pretty ridiculous.

  1. about Action Combat, you need to exit action combat to interact with UI, vendors, quests etc. so ease of use is main reason for me. Steven mentioned in a livestream that they intend to flesh out action combat going forward for sure.

  2. I have heard some say that large player group combat would slow them down but I wonder how much of that is their video card, drivers or some other personal PC and dl speed issues. I didn't notice the lag except for Citadel crashes.

  3. I'm playing a tank and actually swap back and forth between the mods. I mostly do action and I think it'll be more geared towards melee, especially aoe melee classes.

Edit: Would also like to add that while in action combat mode, you can still use tab targeting to find the specific target you want when using moves such as Grapple for the tank.
Edit: Why I use it? It just feels really good for multi-mod tanking and especially when active blocking. Left click to swing sword, hold right click to active block with shield… very easy to use. And as mentioned above, still able to tab target for taunts/grapple when needed, without slowing down doing my attacks while tabbing to find proper target.

I've played multiple MMOs with each system so it wasn't hard to get used to. It was a little weird getting used to swapping between the 2 though, and action does require you to leave action combat to interact with UI.

I do spend most of my fighting time in action mode, while the rest of the time for gathering, etc is more tab target because it's a lot easier and smoother to interact with everything else.

  4. I play generally in Action combat most of the time. (Cleric) with keybinds for party members to select at will. In hectic 'urgent healer mode' or raid mode I'll go tab target. But I prefer action combat.
