Since the Event Showcase that Ashes of Creation put on a week ago, I have seen for the most part, pretty positive reception, but once again people are back at it with the VFX complaints pointing out one ability in particular that seems a bit out of place now

  2. I agree with you 💯%, especially about an option to set effects for yourself, your group, and maybe others separately.

What I really hate is the Final Fantasy XIV "dancing on kaleidoscopes while psychedelic fireworks rain down."

I want to be able to follow just exactly what the hell is going on.

  3. Right now I feel it's too much. Specially considering we will be more people like you saying! I do agree that it's okay as long as we can tone it down. But I hope they show the toned down in the future

  4. I liked the visual effect of the ball. However, I do not like the size. If they shrink it down to beach ball size and increase the speed to target a little, it may be more tolerable.

  5. I liked how EQ did it with more effects around the player model during casting and then you could scale stuff down. You want to show higher level spells and effects but still be able to play stuff in big groups.

  6. I'm sure it won't happen for a number of reasons, but I'd like to see more visceral effects rather than just visual. Light + sound + vibration (even if they had to simulate it with screen shake) in combination. Being in a large battle with lots of AoEs going off should be impactful, but the light show you get in most MMORPGs, including thus far Ashes, is just annoying.

  7. its simple too large. Ideally I think they remove the 'ring' around the lightning and instead just have the lightning arcs reflect the size of its hitbox when something is near enough to it to be hit by one if the arcs. just like a plasma ball

  8. The effect itself I don’t really mind but it just doesn’t seem to have any impact. Doesn’t seem to deal basically any damage, slow enough to be easy to dodge but also fast enough that passes by mobs / players without having much impact. Because it’s a pretty big (literally, in size) ability, I’d make it an ultimate skill with more impact and a lot longer cooldown so we don’t have it all the time in our screens.

  9. I didn't mind it at all, but I imagine if there were 5 mages all casting that spell, it would be hard to see what's going on. I think they should keep the small ball in the center with it arcing out only when it an enemy is close and removing the outer ring would solve the problem.

  10. let be honest whole combat is so fuckin slow and effects looks i can say solid, but y mage skills like blizzard and blue ball looks terrible bro, they need to work alot with visual effects, animations and size.

  11. 1. It is jarring because it is a tool in the arsenal that is rarley seen in other games (slow moving area of denial as opposed to stationary area of denial, such as standing in the flames). That doesnt make it bad par se, but it does make it stand out like a sore thumb compared to all of the other class/archetype toolsets.
    2. Cosmetic vs functionality. Which exactly, and in reality, is the problem ? Many people think the cosmetic aspect needs to be toned down true….especially for large scale combat; but I think it is more the sore thumb functionality that is the issue, as there are plenty of other skills with gratuitous fireworks.

In which case….do we need to expand the tool repertoire and scope of 'mobile – denial of area' tools for the other classes, so that it doent appear alien and in fact an unbalanced and monopolised ability ?
Nothing wrong with the unusual nature of the skill IMHO, more the problem of it being unique, while probably a fundamanental tool for everyone (ie mobile but predictive/avoidable area of denial).
True we havent seen traps and such for other classes like the rogue, that might be on a par, with unique abilities for all archetypes, but that kind of proves why it stands out.

  12. The problem with a mobile denial of area tool though, is what happens when you have 30 mages all casting it and weaving a carpet of death.
But I guess the same can be said about AoE in general. Nothing stopping a group using coordinated pocadot style carpet bombing.
OP much or just working as intened for coordinated/skilled play ?
Of course, there are some examples of mitigation counters.
