My thoughts and update for #AshesofCreation after the NDA drop. We also just got new testing dates. We will no longer have a persistent month long test. It will instead be a series of 2-5 day tests with wipes in between. A little bit upsetting but this is an alpha and it is what it is.

New Test Dates:
Wednesday, July 14, 2021 at 11AM Pacific – Monday, July 19, 2021 at 11AM Pacific
Thursday, July 22, 2021 at 11AM Pacific – Monday, July 26 at 11AM Pacific
Thursday, July 29, 2021 at 11AM Pacific – Monday, August 2 at 11AM Pacific
Thursday, August 5, 2021 at 11AM Pacific – Monday, August 9, 2021 at 11AM Pacific
Thursday, August 12, 2021 at 11AM Pacific – Friday, August 13, 2021 at 11AM Pacific

#Intrepid has said that #Alpha is when the community can have the most influence on the game through feedback so let me know what you think in the comments below!

  1. Was very happy and surprised w
With the test this past weekend. I'm glad their taking the time to get back right, and I agree, I'm sure 99% of all game company devs were watching this over the weekend and I'm sure many had meeting this Monday because of it, which is a good thing! Great Great video!

  2. Really hope Intrepid succeeds, cause that could mean a big shift for the better in the industry.
As for schedule changes, I think they might wanna do more updates to the mechanics, which would give them a fuller picture on how everything works.

  3. Thanks for getting this out so quickly! The testing time shrinkage is a major bit of news, but is not really disconcerting to me. From a coding standpoint, I would say the two day breaks between testing sessions would allow Intrepid breathing space to correct and build a new version of the game, without the panic inducing pressure of monitoring and possibly fixing the servers at the same time. They clearly have yet to have accomplished a reliably stable server build and it would be pointless to try for a persistent test before they know they are ready. As for other game companies being transformed, philosophically speaking, by the apparent success of AoC, I, unfortunately, remain unconvinced. Intrepid is in the unique position of simply having to make a game, rather than facing the firing squad of producing a profit generating product. Money drives business decisions like nothing else and I would expect the industry to change (from being money grubbing leeches) only if FOMOOM (Fear Of Missing Out On Money) were to strike.

  4. I think people need to be realistic though. I think Ashes will carve out a niche sort of like Eve. But I don't think is the "WOW-killer" some people think it is. Its not really trying to become the next big theme park MMO. I hope I'm wrong but I don't think that a more sandbox focused game will ever beat out a more thempark styled MMO in player count.

  5. I think Intrepid made a huge swing in the "customer feedback" part of the gaming industry. I would not be surprised if other companies started developing games with customer feedback where they truely look at what they say and really implement those changes.

On the other hand, I can see companies like Activision or EA say they are going to listen to feedback, get everyone thinking more positively about these companies, then them not actually listening and then the gaming community does not trust when other companies say they will develop with customer feedback.

Also you say "other companies" should be afraid of Ashes' development, but I think you should of said "MMO companies", because vast majority of gamers of other genres really don't give a crap about this game.

  7. I gave up on the mmo genre a few years ago, honestly never thought I'd be excited for another mmo after the travesty that was BFA, and coming from someone who was so let down after a decade of playing WoW almost religiously I deleted my account. I'm genuinely looking forward to Ashes and I think if Steven and the team continues to value the input and feedback of the community it'll be a massive win for us, not only in finally having another game made by gamers, for gamers, but in the industry as a whole. Other developers should be afraid, we're all being exposed to how abusive our relationships with these companies truly are.

If Steven or any Intrepid team member reads this comment, never lose sight of the values that won so many people over to you. People can be fiercely loyal to a brand that proves to care about making good games, but that loyalty inevitably only goes so far. Don't become another Blizzard, Bethesda, Bioware, etc. after you make your success.

  8. The topic at hand here is very interesting. While I agree that the way Intrepid is going about building this game, with a customer first focus, and as players first and developers second. And as much as I want that permeate through the rest of game development, the reality is that Intrepid is in a truly unique situation, having an owner that is the final decision maker on everything, and caring so much about reviving a dying genre. I'm sure some companies will try to imitate the structure of Intrepid and the gamer first priority, I'm just not sure most of the big publishers pushing out AAA content will allow much movement in that direction. We'll see. Nice video though, and a fun conversation to have for sure.

  9. The testing dates are perfect and exactly what the team should be shooting for for an Alpha 1 test. We get to test for 3-4 days straight and then the devs get to work on responding to bugs and feedback for 3-4 days.
    We’re testing; not playing.
Also allows the devs to catch up on much needed sleep rather than crunching with very little sleep for an entire month while they try to support player 24/7 for a whole month.

The best way to get more content towards the end of Alpha One is to give the devs breathing room each week.
But, also, there’s not enough content to keep us busy for an entire month of 24/7 testing with no character wipes.

Wednesday through Monday should give me some time to test crafting different armor sets and possibly potions.
Especially if we can have 3 or more days without wipes.
