  1. I stopped playing New World 253 hr in because progression did not feel any sense of the word, I am a casual only lvl 56 and got burnt out. It's totally discouraging leveling up and not feeling like the time I spend in the game was well spent i.e monsters, impact (combat), quests, emptiness….the crafting and skilled trades were fine. The game honestly felt lifeless/soulless once the "honeymoon phase" departed. I hope Ashes of Creation becomes something next level in the MMO genre, but New World has left such a bad taste I can't get hyped.

  2. I don't expect Ashes to come out anytime soon, especially with the feature set they want to release with. I've heard other MMO's promise weather systems and player driven experiences but they don't really pan out. So we will see. I expect New World to be at least 1 or maybe even two expansions or expansions worth of content by then if all goes well.

  3. It's about emotional attachment, negative or positive, to the game. Blizzard managed a huge fandom with their multiple IPs that span years. That's how WoW got so popular.

I've said it many times, while players think they don't care for the story, having a good, engaging world with interesting and fascinating background creates a much more intense attachment to the world. It's also one of the hardest to pull through because you need an excellent script, gameplay mechanics that support said script and the vision to see it through.

I see AoC having the same problem too but if their initial storyline can pull players, then they would have done 100% more than New World.

  4. I believe a lot of people are not looking for "the next MMO", as the modern Zoomers would love. But, the Boomer crowd that grew up with the entire history of MMOs to reference, are looking for an MMO they can call home. Most of these Boomers have jobs, families and other responsibilities and can't afford the time or money to play all day everyday like before. Ashes of Creation is being built, developed and operated by people who love the old school aspects of MMOs. While bringing new technologies and features, that will have the rest of the MMOs playing catchup. But, none of this works if you can't trust or respect the economy and all the players that dedicate time and energy participating in it, while getting the transparency they deserve and paid for.

  5. Star Citizen is a game being made from the ground up, with design notes written all the way back in 2015. Not sure how he's talking about "feature creep" when literally everything added has been planned and publicly posted before the game even got any traction.

Also, there was no engine overhaul. It took three devs a couple of days to move the base code from CryEngine to Lumberyard, which is.. CryEngine with AWS support. People talk smack about Star Citizen all the time but never actually bother to know anything about it. Just makes you look hella misinformed.

So far the only thing CIG is actually guilty of, is taking their sweet ass time, and being obnoxiously hard-headed when it comes to brute-forcing themselves through technical hurdles.

  6. One of the things I think people underestimate with AoC is the player economy, territory, and general agency. Eve Online has been bleeding players for years because of the monetization. So many people are looking for a place to call home where they can have meaningful agency in the world. Players who want to craft, rule, and develop a world are chomping at the bit for this game.
