That's exactly his point. He is against boosts. Despite put them in anyway. Boosts are so valuable even those against them feel compelled to use them. Who decides the value of boosts? Game devs.
For those that dont have time to watch the whole video, I started with being tough on Asmon, but concluded that it would have been great if he didnt use boosts and just show everyone how bad the leveling process is.
I also stated near the end that him being critical of New World's potential cash shop details will probably end up being a good thing. The makers of New World will most likely think things thru more carefully because of what Asmon said and wrote about it.
I dont hate Asmon, I actually think he is really smart but that he made a mistake in using boosts after he railed against them.
What asmongold did is not hypocritical. He's exactly right. If I had as much money as he did I would boost too and I'm completely against it. It's like telling someone to pay higher taxes than they have to because they think their taxes should be higher. It would be stupid do that. The system needs to be changed.
The problem with the boost isn't actually the boost itself but the fact that it devalues the effort of the person who spends 100 hours getting there on his own. This problem is compounded if the leveling experience is not fun, which in most cases it isn't because everything else is focused on end game and most game offer boosts or xp potions now to get it done faster.
The most interesting part to me about WoW Classic – and the part where I put in the most playtime – was opening night when everyone started out equal. I had this vague hope a few months ago that Blizzard would launch fresh BC Classic servers where everyone would start out equally. Instead it is just a bunch of Boosters (including the people who made Draenei and Blood Elf characters and got them boosted by paid dungeon runs).
BC Classic is just as pay to win as any Korean Mobile Game – just more hypocrisy among the players.
You seem upset that someone spoke up and Amazon, who by the way was hiding all the p2w shop items behind NDA, lost some momentum and money. If no one says anything and no pressure (potential loss of income) is applied to these companies, they are never going to stop. I applaud is efforts
