I agree with the way ashes has its housing but I also don't agree with it like ok cool you want the housing to be for the more dedicated ppl got it im all for that but the best processing should not be locked behind that there should never be a game wear a core function is locked behind something
I think people enjoy even more housing now in games since most of us cant afford one in todays housing market.

at this point, housing seems to be a basic requirement for all games
Haha. Just wait till Nyce doesn't get a house and has to wait 4-5years like in FF because there is a limited amount.
If the game even lasts that long
I have no creative talent, so I rely on inspiration to help me be creative. I am looking forward to the new home tours feature, to be inspired.
The only problem that I see with a lot of these systems is that they will really only ever reward the no lifers. A lot of this stuff also seem very susceptible to bad lag situations and that doesn't seem like something they'll have solved. As a broad concept thing, I find all of Ashes to be very interesting but a lot of the concessions they're pushing back against came about because of constraints that still exist. Will be cool to see how it all plays out though.
I still think Ultima Online had some of the best open world housing. The amount of personalization available in that game was crazy. I loved just wandering around and checking out player's houses.

This shit looks like two worlds online
The best Housing in MMOs were some of the early ones when Housing was not standard. It was just a cool thing to do in Ultima Online and Everquest. However, once it became standard the best Housing system was in City of Heroes. It created a reason to join a guild, as you did not have to travel to specific zone to do crafting. It created a repository for advanced character to share with lower level characters. Finally, it provided teleports to all zones. None of this was absolutely necessary, but the upgrade to quality of life made joining a good Supergroup that could maintain these features a decently high priority.
The problem with Ashes is they are planning on gating some crafting to homesteads, and now homesteads will need a guild or group strong enough to keep other people from taking it. This takes this type of Housing from nice to mandatory for quite a few people.
I do like the idea of becoming a citizen of a Node, but the rules about transferring citizenship or loss of access if you lose a war may break the concept.
