Today, Steven Sharif, the creative director for the upcoming MMORPG Ashes of Creation held a 1 hour AMA live on Twitch. They chose the hottest questions on reddit and we got a ton of information! My friend @Xillin and I decided to hope onto a call and talk about it. The format is a bit different than usual and I botched up the audio but its not to bad!   1. 1. The problem is there are going to be ALOT of merges early, cause of all the people that are going to be there at launch. I just really want to have a sit down with him and other creators, to talk about the launch cause it maybe something like we have never seen. and with a proper plan It can go a lot smoother.

I agree lol everybody that says they wont play, will play lol everybody and there mom tried New World and its was 40 bucks, Everybody will at least try it at $15, there will be over 2-3 million at least. its going to be crazy. But at $15 a month 225k concurrent is $3.4 Million a month so it will be fine.

    3. I find this interesting because he is pretty much saying you will not lvl by just doing Quest, I'm so ready to see a Exp Salad lol Get exp by doing everything!

  2. 1. Server merges will always be a part of the game with server based MMORPGs.
    2. There is 0% chance you please everyone.
    3. There's no reason to punish a healthy and active server for another server's player loss.
    4. This is the best way to do it. So try and pick a decently populated server and do your part to keep it alive.

  3. Sooner or later servers become low to medium pop, when you have a cap when you are high population.

    The problem for me is how server progress work, would you like to join a server that have a history, a lot progress that you cant follow and you have to catch up?

    i personally would like to see lower multiple low pop servers be merged and start from new with your characters as they where before the merge with your stuff sent to you by some kind of system.

  4. Watch jahlons solution to server merge. Seems Iike a better option. Basically combine all weak servers into one and start fresh (still retaining level and gear). Don’t tinker with a strong server

    Nodes are the Evergreen content if they design deep enough. Longstanding content that doesn't require expansions for a long time. That's just one aspect that excites me about the Nodes. And that's just the tip of the iceberg of what they can do with them.

  6. Most players at launch will quit after the initial sub phase, because they are disappointed by the game. Even if AoC is perfect and brilliant, it will only be so for a certain kind of player base.
    When Steven talks about recreating the early mmo gaming experiences most current gamers don't really know what he's talking about. Most players won't like the design choices that are necessary to achieve that.
    I am pretty sure, for example, that most self-defined PvP players won't like the game. It won't be a balanced, skill based PvP game that allows for competitive gaming. Listen to what he is saying. He wants imbalance (Holy Trinity). He wants battles to be enjoyable not only for hc-pvpers (limited gear advantage). He wants large scale battles ( numbers will count and coordination is more important than personal power).
    I could go on and this is just about misconceptions on the PvP aspects of the game. Each one of these points would be enough for 90% of the mmo pvpers I have played with to say the game is garbage.
