In a recent live stream Josh Strife Hayes was asked a question about the upcoming MMORPG Ashes of Creation. His answer stirred some emotions in the Ashes of community. This is my response/reaction. As one of my favorite creators in the MMORPG space I highly value his opinion. Let’s see what he says.

  1. A panic or lots of pointing at laughing at Josh? hehehe, you can't huff all those Warhammer 40K figures fumes all day and not be affected so I give him a pass, he was high as a kite FFS! ^_^

  2. Honestly I dont think his mistaking pantheon for Ashes deserves too much criticism. He usually does his research for his vids and here he was just chilling and painting his warhammer figures when a viewer sort of "cornered" him with question about Ashes. Everyone makes mistakes, cant blame him for answering a question unprepped in a really bad way, though he should probably have said that he hasnt followed up on Ashes in quite a while so he cant really answer that. But his take on how MMORPGs should be released on the other hand… kind of an L take. I mean its the way MMORPGs ARE in the modern day but just because they are doesnt mean they should be. So a pragmatic/pessimistic take, but not a good one.

  3. Couldn't agree more Roar! I too am a big fan of Josh's and am a sub but he, or at least I think, mistook AoC with Pantheon. As to his core statement, I think he, like so many of us, are used to an MMO doing it "that way" and it has gotten us to where the genre is a shadow of its former glory. I welcome Steven and his team going about releasing a fully fleshed out game instead of just a boring base game that players will voraciously devour. I would like to point you to The history of the MMORPG genre and where it all went wrong by content creator "NeverKnowsBest" here on YT.
