Is Ashes of Creation ACTUALLY fully funded?

Read more about Ashes of Creation ➜ https://ashesofcreation.mgn.tv

In the January livestream, we learned that there are 100K Alpha 2 backers for Ashes of Creation. At $250 each that is a lot of extra funding for this project. But AAA MMOs are not cheap to make, so I think now is a good time to do a deep dive into the economic situation surrounding this project. Keep in mind, EVERYTHING in this video is HIGHLY speculative. Do not take this as fact, please!

  1. Great video!
The amount of money they have spent (and spending) is astronomical – but it is going in the right direction. Let's not even account for the employees that work during their off time because of their passion. I think this amount is a baseline for any decent MMO and is going higher. Thanks for the information

  2. For a detailed "back of an envelope" calculation, I think you have done a solid job.

I have always been wary of the claim of being "fully funded" simply because there are so many things that can go wrong in ways that weren't anticipated.

For example, should Congress not raise the debt ceiling in time, the economic consequences could be catastrophic. The stock market could crash, interest rates skyrocket, the dollar weaken, and the world economy grind to a halt. Funds that Steven possessed could be much smaller than he had estimated, loan costs could increase, and future sales of Ashes of Creation could turn out to be a fraction of what was anticipated.

COVID-19 probably had dramatic effects that were foreseen.

Finally, I would assume that while Steven is willing to commit his funding, he would prefer to preserve as much for his retirement as possible. A stock market crash could force a revision of plans.

This is why I personally have never had an issue with the pre-sales of cosmetics. I see them as a buffer against misfortune.

Lastly, I imagine that once Alpha 2 is announced, there will be a tsunami of new pledges. I know I haven't Pledged yet, but will for Alpha 2 once that becomes clear.

Again, I think your estimates are pretty solid.

  3. I will always disagree with the speculative cost of NW as there is no actual evidence provided. The number given is from AGS' budget but nothing specific for what games etc.

Enjoyed the video though! On the topic of employees – last I heard they were pushing over 200. No source for that claim though

  4. I respect the work on the math and research you did. I do believe your math might be off in the average salary. It is likely as more people were hired, the average salary decreased.

Either way, it looks like Intrepid solvent right now. Which is a lot better than a lot of companies presently.

  5. You have to keep in mind that New World did a total 180 on their game, it was basically a survival full loot game that they turned into a PvE MMO, they reshaped everything and all, so extra cost

  6. Those pre cosmetic sales just rub me the wrong way. The games not even close to out and theyre selling in game items? They keep saying theyre fully funded already but moves like that make me think otherwise.
