This was my main reason for hitting level 25 in Ashes of Creation during the Alpha 2. I’m sure things will grow for the Bard and other classes going into future phases, but as we prepare for phase 2, I wanted to give some insight on how you can play the class when we start fresh.

  14. Like you said at the beginning Bard is a Jack of all Trades. As a basic build this is pretty good especially if you are the only bard in group and a go to build. I haven't run into anyone that would choose dps over bard if they don't have one already, often times they will sacrifice a dps for an extra bard thanks to our power.

    I'd revisit your opinion of single target buffs. Depending on the group, focusing on one target is actually more effective. You just have to be on top of it. Hymn for instance is currently random and just goes where ever. Often times Hymn goes to someone who doesn't need it, so being able to do big regen on someone who could really use that influx is better. For a newbie AOE is easy and just a button to click.

    If you have two bards, coordinating frontline and backline is choice. This past test period I developed my frontline bard swapping Menacing and Cathartic while stunning and silencing. Using Counterpoint and dissonance to apply discordant notes from serenade and hymn. I wish Counterpoint and dissonance CDs lined up better, you are forced to 'waste' shining skills while swinging songs but the bonus is you are giving your group stagger on strike. Backline bard is free to run your build focusing on pensive for mana regen and applying Alacrity to the range while frontline can apply alacrity to the melee. Backline will be popping wonder for mana regen to boost pensive and hymn so frontline is free to do tragedy or comedy depending on group composition and situation. I tend to lean towards comedy as it synergizes with shield and serenade but if you have a bunch of physical party members like rangers and fighters tragedy is going to be better. While I don't tend to use "Get off the Stage" there is room for it. The tank doesn't always have their chains up and if aimed correctly will be appreciated for getting those pesky ranged into group AOE.

    Frontline bard is one of those things the party doesn't realize it needs until it has had one. I will note, if you do not have a backline bard your party will not appreciate you playing the frontline bard as everyone will think you're an idiot for not being the mana battery they invited.
