How an MMO Should NOT Release Their Content

Hey wut up boiz, little different to my usual stuff as i have 2 weeks free before Ashes of Creation NDA is dropped, I wanted to spend the time productively so I’m working on a mini series looking at some issues previous MMOs have had with their content.
This subject in particular came up because of Guild War 2’s terrible final release before their 3rd expansion drops, really setting the bar low for the game and the upcomming expansion.
I am very passionate about Guild Wars 2 and I’ve been greeted with nothing but disappointment from this potentially AMAZING game. Very Sadge.

Anyway, If you enjoyed this video, consider joining the discord community as I almost always have the next video ready to view already for ABSOLUTELY free!

  1. Interesting take. I somewhat disagree with one time events. I think they >CAN< be successful as long as the focus is the event being fun and something that players want to experience. That way not only do players enjoy themselves but they also serve as a marketing tool because they want to share their experience with their friends. Also, keep in mind that Steven has talked about how he likes exclusivity, so I wouldn't be surprised to see 1 time earnable achievements, titles and items.

  2. Thanks Narc
Not a big fan of Server Events like that either.
Feels like playing a scavenger hunt or a Great Race and being lead around by a mob.

  3. TOTALLY AGREE!!! I'm pretty salty at how I STILL can't experience the "Living World" Season 1 content in Guild Wars 2! After 8 years, ArenaNet STILL hasn't figured out a way to re-implement that content! For new players, it's like skipping an entire book in the Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings series. Who the crap does that!? And then the quality of their episodes in the last few years have been horrendous as well. Think about it… Anet made new (pretty great) episodes every two weeks for Season 1, and every since then they have made mediocre episodes every 2-3 months. Like, what the heck are they doing with all the extra time!??? Oh right… DESIGNING SKINS FOR THE FREAKING GEM STORE! >:-(

  4. man GW2 was such a let down from what was promised in the beta to what we got. With all the nerfing too it's a game my kids now play occasionally

  5. I loved gw2. Personal story. Levelled up weapons as you use them. random events and abilities depend on what weapons you used. I got to max level within a week then rerolled to play with friends lol not sure why I quit… I just forgot about it

  6. Seems like you have a lot of experience with mmos ..personnaly i rather see you deviate from aoc content for now and talk about mmos in more different lights like the way you did with this video..and with your editing skills i bet even the mald man asmonbald might review your video in his stream someday( a lil advice though..tune down tge memes a bit and focus more on the script)

  7. i dont see one time events as bad. it really just depends on how well its done. If its proper world changing then it has to atleast be a memorable experience that you can gaze back to and say " i was there and it was glorious". i mean what would you prefer, a patch that suddenly changes the world or an actual event leading into the change. having certain items locked behind such events is a big no no though.

  8. I really hope Intrepid have done their due diligence as to why MMO's die and avoid those scenarios at all costs. There's nothing like sinking 3 years of your life in an MMO to gradually see your friends list get smaller and smaller due to playerbases moving on.

  9. I suppose what I would like in terms of this are AoC's events always having a chance to come back around if x actions are repeated through node destructions/redevelopments, even if it'd cause some guaranteed not to come back for 6 months events on a particular server
