  1. Casuals for me are people who dont need to experience the "end game" mixed with people who have very limited amount of time to play. Hardcore for me are players who want to reach the top of whatever gameplay loop (crafting, pvp, dungeons/exploration to name a few) they find most appealing mixed with people who spend way to much time on a game.

In my opinion casuals will find the world go by them as such a rate they never truly feel apart of it even if they do manage to join a node or guild unless that guild is all casuals with similar and consistent log in times. Hardcores on the other hand will find the game goes by slowly and always have something to do unless ashes poorly delivers the node system. Hypothetically because they want to bring interacting with other players back, some no life crafters may never have to explore. If a crafter finds clients to sell to and gatherers to supply them with resources because they are a top crafter in their immediate area, why ever leave your town unless you specifically want to explore. I imagine a quartermaster or your classic Weaponsmith or Armorsmith for the top guild of a node who works with all their guildmates as well as the fellow citizens of the node through a store, kiosk or personal trade. It all depends if Ashes succeeds in taking away the "i have to do it all by myself" stigma with artisan skill limitations. Ashes might be one of the only games where being a merchant with a caravan and guards is actually possible no matter if you do it to make as much gold as you can or because you want to be an RP merchant. If they succeed with all the goals they set, this game will be a true second life mmo.

  2. Nah, Casuals play to "Have Fun" and enjoy the game. Long as they're not getting Ganked and losing all their stuff, they're fine plugging away day by day. If the Parlor Games are as good as Final Fantasy in game games, a Casual player might just play card games all day. Certainly buying low and selling high on the auction house is always a thing… but you can casually collect materials, and casually craft gear and play 4 or 8 alts to level up the stuff you need. If you're not focused on being the best, and you're just playing to have fun. Some people might grand master fishing while not really caring about anything else. Everyone is different, and everyone finds fun in different ways. As long as the game is Diverse, then a diverse amount of people will find their own ways to have fun. Even if that fun is just being a Bard in town and playing for tips.
