  1. Love the discussion, as usual. =)

One thing I'm noticing while following along, though, is that a lot of these suppositions and questions have been answered already. Of course, I follow the development pretty closely, so it sticks out more to me, but for example: the "How are 24 people going to fit on that platform" was directly responded to during the stream and afterward. This one encounter is actually just part of a raid encounter – the platform is just part of a fight, and only for about one group of the raid to handle. They didn't want to show the whole fight (and didn't need to for this demonstration). Another thing is the AI node graph – it's not the Disposition system, this graph is for all of the advanced AI. The Disposition system actually sits on top of this base system, modifying it a bit.

Anyway, still love the videos, and I hope this doesn't come across as overly critical. I know it's just a discussion. =)

  2. Great take on the stream gentlemen – enjoyed the show!

    Regarding Dispositions vs. Traits:
A Disposition refers to an AI layer that governs an NPC's behavior in some way (their movement, ability usage, etc.). A Trait is an intrinsic property of an NPC that can either inform a Disposition, or otherwise modify an NPC's personal characteristics.

For example, the "Alarmist" Disposition. An Alarmist NPC will make every attempt to run to the nearest allied NPC when combat is initiated.
"Alluring", however, is a Trait – NPCs with the Alluring trait have a higher chance to land Mesmerize and Charm abilities.

Our current plan is for NPCs to have a chance to spawn with one Disposition and up to 3 Traits, though that is subject to change.

  3. Glad to see a new video guys, please continue your great work! VR did mention that the 24 raid group would need to handle three of these pedestal areas at the same time, meaning that approx. 8 players would be there together, not the full 24.

The key things for me for the Pantheon video (here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Urv4JvKgdM) was that 1) only intelligent mobs (like a humanoid or non-humanoid casters, a mini-boss, boss, guard) would likely have these intelligent options, certainly they would not present in a rat or a wolf or many/most "animal" type mobs, 2) that a group of multiple mobs would interact with each other…your enchanter mezes one…and another mob quickly un-mezs it, or they remove your Shaman's Heals over Time, they stun your Cleric when healing or perhaps (gulp) during the long Rez spell, or perhaps worse continually charms your group's Monk who starts wailing on your healer and 3) that since mobs can respawn with both a set of dispositions and traits…when camping the same mob can come back with multiple "personalities" that require different tactics.

Combat is this game isn't going to be "complex" (a negative term) in Pantheon but dynamic and challenging (both positive terms for a gamer). It looks like it won't be dull, you'll need to (as you said) "think and be on your toes as a group". And that is just awesome!

If you have not seen the Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen video I linked, please check it out. It is, IMHO the best dev stream they have ever released.
