I at least want to try to be a shop keeper in Ashes of Creation. I do think it could provide a pretty cool experience but I’m not sure how long I’d last doing this. I do think anyone that wants to do this will be in for that career during their time in Verra. So much of your time will be meant for upkeep for your shop.

Pretty sure you can also use a free hold for economic purposes including shops. If all goes well for me I'll have in-node housing and I'll be able to dedicate my entire freehold plot for economic gain. Ideally I'll have an Inn, Tavern, and Shop on my freehold. I think your 100% correct that we'll see shops close to raid locations…makes too much sense to not happen.
