  1. I love this new format, the interpersonal give and take, and the live reaction to the other's comments. I've never cared too awfully much for voice over videos because they deprive me of the non-verbal communication cues that people subconsciously use. Please make this a regular thing.

  2. Spot on the resource gathering. I really hope intrepid is watching new world on this one. Can't wait for your vid discussion on this.

I think for low end materials, ones that any one can work with they should be very abundant and they need to be geographically appropriately located. Certain woods or minerals or plants from places that make sense.

As you move your way up the crafting skills and you choose to master in it, you gain the ability to gather the rarest materials. These materials would be less common visually as a player travels about the map, but when you see it you should say "oh man what is that and can I get it." When you mouse over it it shows you need to be a master miner or whatever to gather this material.

The one thing, and I believe this is because AoC is in alpha, but one thing New world does right that AoC is lacking is world density.

I wholly believe this is because its in alpha. However as AoC moves towards beta eventually we will see if this is the case. Some of the areas that feel more finished in AoC are still lacking in visual density. Plains feel somewhat barren, forests feel sparse.

A lot of this comes from the lack of visual diversity. Again an alpha problem hopefully.

Once they've got more diverse models, and assets to work with they'll be able to flesh out the world more and make it feel more alive.

I wanted to add: I think part of AoCs problem is with scaling as well and it causes some of the issues with how dense or alive the world feels.

  3. New World is a dogshit game, HOWEVER…. Its gathering is probably the best gathering ever implemented in a MMORPG…. Period… Ashes NEEDS to blatantly steal it and use it.

  4. I agree about the resource gathering being aweful in AoC, and wonderful in NW. As for the comment of travelling far and wide to get other resources, I agree with as well, but I feel you can do both, by having gathering like NW, and handling other resources based on biomes/nodes. That after all is what will bring the greed factor, and the want/need to take over that node through conquest or trade treaty. AoC has amazing biomes, and if they tie the resources to the nodes, and the nodes to the biomes, even having them be plentiful around the area, will do wonders for the game on multiple levels.

  5. Guys I love you both, you make a good team , the show is good , but there is no point to watch it … Video after Video you show that you follow the game casually.
Dual Weapons is know for years to be a thing , and there is no way gatherings become as the one in NW because it will F*** the economy and the caravan system of AoC , the whole economy is build on the none abundance of resources.
Please take a week to dig into the wiki.
90% of it are known fact. If reading isn't your stuff , check Ashes101 it's easy to catch up through it.
    Much love!

  6. Put the Dual Wield option in the Weapon Tree for other Classes, so they have to make that decision to spend points there.
Make is so Fighter can Dual Wield one-handers immediately at lv.1, Bonus crit for using JUST one a 2 hander, but could also use a 2-hander + Shield, then later after lv.25 be able to unlock dual wielding 2-handed weapons in the Weapon Tree.

  7. A point on the duel wielding, it would make it much easier to tell what class someone is just by looking at their weapons. No looking at icons, or some text. It would be truly immersive, and give you an idea of what they're capable of even if you did not know what exact class they were.

  8. The type of gathering in New World looks like a system intended for a survival game.. I wonder where that might come from? The reason why New World went for that route is that they have a relatively small world with only approx. 2000 players. In other words: there is not much room for exploration.

However, the world of Verra is huge and should be utilized in every aspect as such. This is especially the case for gathering and I also think that this is the idea and philosophy behind AoC. Just remember, the overworld is content in AoC! Thus, you should be actively exploring the world for gatherables. You should be able to get more efficient in finding gatherable because you developed a sixth sense or a keen eye. You should be able to contest other players for gatherables. I think that would make the gathering experience far more interesting in the long run.

Additionally, sparse gathering resources would make it way harder for Bot-Farmers to farm. As they need to search for the gatherables and are more exposed to other players.

All in all, I think Intrepid should learn from New World as much as possible ofc while sticking to their roots.

  9. I like your weapon idea. Would that apply to armor as well? Would a mage/rogue combo be able to wear leather armor and a dagger in off hand?

As a caster though, I don’t like to sweat. That is for the lesser classes. The thought of melee is so, well, dirty….
