Does it matter?

Does weather matter? Is it necessary for an MMO to feel immersive? Both Ashes of Creation and Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen seem to think so. These two kickstarted in-development MMOs both revealed weather systems in the past 6 months.

These new mmo’s are banking on their investment in these systems paying off by providing players with an immersive in-game experience. Logging into a world, rather than just a game.

Join me as we cover these new MMO updates and talk about whether or not mmorpg weather is worth it.

  1. Somebody had way to much fun tossing that water in your face. But i am in the same position you are: Backed Pantheon for alpha and am contemplating backing Ashes just in the hope that it brings something new to the genre and is successful. Ashes system I think is going to be a bit more in depth that Pantheon's is but I would find it hard for folks to argue that the weather/seasonal systems doesn't bring you more into the game(I avoid the word immersive). I just want to see a more dynamic world and if the first steps are the weather/seasons, I'm all for it.

  2. If you have ever played everquest back in the original launch, you could not see 10 feet in front of you in a downpour. I miss that.
Edit: Dogs have to be German Shepards, or Huskys, or Golden Retrievers. Mainly a cat person though!

  3. Pantheon is never coming out, they have no funding.
Ashes Of Creation is forcing all MMO's to evolve or die, and it's fully funded already.
Weather very much matters, and especially the way it affects many systems in Ashes Of Creation.

  4. 💯 agree. I am looking forward to both of these MMOs. I have yet to back Pantheon but when I have the extra money I definitely will. I backed Ashes in the Kickstart days.

    Great video and ovservations!

  5. As always, a superb video, and for both games. I do feel these two games and their respective leaders Steven and Chris have a brotherly bond, and even the fans, except for one notable streaming one, want both to be released and successful. So, love your positive attitude towards both of them, and the water bucket bit. Too funny! BTW Pantheon's June newsletter comes out today, and the "Fantheons" are hoping they announce both that the networking is complete, and a new PA testing session date. Keep your fingers crossed!

You are right about the weather (and I applaud you as a content creator for being open enough to allow your view on weather's importance to change, so BRAVO!) and it making a huge change to thew atmosphere and (dare I say it?) your game immersion.

Anyway, a really good video. The water bit should be in each one going forward! J/K
