  2. No he didn't

There is still "content" to be completed before A2, and I don't think it will be done in 6 months. Not to mention Rogue and Bard, and since no showcase. I'm going to say at a minimum July 2024.

  3. First Alpha 2 then Alpha 3 then Alpha 4 then maybe closed beta will start then when we are more older than we might see the open beta test then the real release haha 😀

  4. People should realize that all the testing phases do not just relate to when they feel like testing. These test phases often relate to structural development process changes within a project.

So Alpha 1 = Creation of an integrated test area for developers. This is the first joint area with the basic engine where developers can put their code and assets, to test. You are testing your design choices, essentially a "Proof of Concept".

Alpha 2 = Creation of a User Test Area, so that you now have an stable area where the product team can test, without developers constantly breaking it with new versions. All the general code is pretty much complete, and you are now working on all the the derived/inherited/dependent code. You don't want to start this while you are still changing the core mechanics, because then you have to go back and change all the derived/dependent code. However, they will want the product test area created ASAP, because they don't want developers inadvertently changing core code, and messing everything up, either. The time this takes from Alpha 1 is how "tall" the game is.

Beta 1 = Creation of a production area. You now have patches and releases, and you start change management. The code is essentially complete (the data might not be), and you are now debugging. You now have your traditional 3 system structure, with Development, Test, and Production areas. The time this takes from Alpha 2 is how "Wide" the game is.

Beta 2 = This is the final test before you go live. Sometimes called "Acceptance testing", or User Testing.

So if you think, from the demos and live-streams, that the core mechanics are complete, and the game just needs more classes, more races, more biomes, more professions, more node types and generally widened, then Alpha 2 is close.

  5. Even if alpha 2 was what he was hinting at take it with a grain of salt. Steven often accidentally gives spoilers that they can't meet. If it's not an official announcement it's not worth getting your hopes up.

I think Steven gets himself a little too hopeful at times lol. I'll take the false hope any day though as it's due to his passion for the project and I'll take that 10 times out of 10 over a developer who just needs to meet corporate deadlines.
