What steps should Intrepid Studios take to ensure a fair testing environment and discourage exploitation during Alpha testing?"
Sleep does not give you the option of fighting back until AFTER the node is already gathered. Sleep is lame unless you want to give every class some version of it. As a tank I've used grapple to pull someone off a node. Now THAT gives them the option to fight back.
Great vid! I also keep unintentionally adding in "ready to work" and "work complete" in my head haha
Im a big fan of no fast travel throughout the world. I love exploring on my mount. Getting to know the lands is so fun! Im starting to figure out where everything is without looking much at the map now.
You need to wake up old man and all the boomers who have no idea how MMO development works. The problem here is
the MONEY. Such an ambitious MMO project that even the giga and most experienced corps like Blizzard / NCsoft / Tencent haven't try to achieve says a lot.
An Indie studio such as Interpid which only invested 55 mils and MAYBE.. maybe – isn't guaranteed that it will happened – will add another 55 mils.. is NOTHING to complete such an ambitious project. Star Citizen spend 800 mils and still on Alpha after 14 years in development. Interpid NEEDS tons of more MONEY to keep the development at reasonable pace and they can't get them just by selling alpha / beta keys with false promises and delayed deadlines.
They invested 55 millions during a period of 8 years, thats only 1/6 of an average cost of MMO which is around 300 millions in 2025. And with such ambitious project we talk much more than that. Their current monetization model doesn't give them enough revenue to be able to finish the game on time.
They claim they have 100 K players who bought alpha keys (which personally i dont believe but lets assume is true). Lets say that every single key cost 1000 $ – i know it doesn't but for the sake of the argument lets assume. Thats only 100 millions more. Again NOT ENOUGH.
They switched from UE4 to UE5 and literally start from 0 again. So pretty much 80% of the development happened to UE4 got lost. What is going to happened when UE6 release in a few years and the game still in alpha.. they switched again ? .. Or stay in outdated UE5 graphics and hope players buy in ?? LOL
Will they try a more aggressive monetization to boost their development speed ..but with potential p2w elements like Star Citizen does ? Nobody knows.. but the concerns are rising more and more as soon as the project keep delaying and push back crucial gaming features which keep the players interested into the game.
IF this game ever manages to release, you will get a version of 30-40% of what promised and they will try to add the rest as expansions for the lifespan of 20 or so years. Or stay in alpha like Star Citizen for ever until all their promises are in game.
Never trust a new formed studio with devs who have 0 experience in the field. They even have a lead designer from New World when they switched engines to UE5 .. that should tell u where the game is going…
Good Luck
Who cares if people exploit during an alpha. Just fix the exploit and move on. That's what an alpha is for
