Great video. Looking forward to how you attempt to make the pirate king balanced.
I was thinking the pirate king compass. would have a CD of 1 month, and within that month you had to do something to reset it. You could for example sail the seas in PvP combat, opening up the possibility for other people to attempt at least once a month to kill you and take the compass for themselves. Getting whatever bonuses that is worthy of a unique item you can lose.
When the pirate king haven't done this nearing a month, let's say a week away from the CD to be over, a global alert would pop up on the screen saying something like: "The pirate king hasn't been seen on the seas for 28 days"
I'm not sure if this makes sense at all I am not a game dev either. 😅
About the pirate king title:
Make it so the person who has it needs to continuously gain corruption points to keep the title, or else he loses it and the compass. This makes it so the player needs to play the game (can't go offline for too many days), and has to get involved in pirate related activities (attacking ships for example)
Also make it like the mayors in that it only lasts a month. After a month, you lose the compass and the title, and anyone can try to get it another way.
(Theory Crafting Lore)
A mage is basically a loaded gun in fantasy.
People would be afraid of a mage just pointing at them.
Being a mage means some jobs will not allow you to work out of fear that you might set fires.
The mages would be constantly exploited of shunned by average people and you might find mages being segregated into towers that watch the edges of towns.
Local adventure groups might order every party to take 1 mage so that groups can communicate through signal magic, but having a mage participate in combat might be banned out of the risk of hurting the party members.
For example an explosion in a small confined space like a goblin cave might rupture the eardrums of everyone inside.
While every class has its ups and downs it is important to remember that Adventures can die and come back to life, but the Residence of Verra that survived the cataclysm are not able to revive so easily.
The pirate king title could have windows of contest (like certain time of certain days)
certain periods of time where you can challenge him (or his base/ship at sea?) For the title.
In this case the pirate king can either stay online to defend himself or lose the title/privilage of being pirate king in a fair manner for both parties
I think to keep up the "Pirate King" title, you'd have to maintain your "Pirate Bounty experience". Maybe anytime you raid a ship on the high seas, you gain "Pirate Bounty". Whoever holds the most Bounty is dubbed the "Pirate King". You would lose Bounty over time, so in order to keep up the title, you'd have to continue to out-pirate the other pirates.
I don't like the idea of having cannons in a game where guns/gunpowder don't exist. It's too immersion breaking. Just stick to how ships were prior to the invention of cannons. Rely on your own magic and attacks.
Good one DooD
Make the title item require activity, such as a daily/weekly quest to “reassert their influence”
A healing/support ship is a great idea

great video. lol, that ending was hilarious! 😛
I would also think it would be nice to become a entrepreneur and have the posibilty to have multiple fast food chain like Stores in a few nodes.
Love the video. I am, however, a little worried that people who are new to AoC and dont know much about the game overhype the game and start expecting those features in it. I just want to warn people to NOT overhype the game and expect all those feature added to the game.
There is much fun to be had with the concept of social hierarchy roles/positions/titles, how to gain them, how to keep them, how to interrup them.
The mayor (and potential political intrigue/obstruction assassination) is just one example. The Pirate king is another.
I did suggest at one time building a whole game around character build choices, being parallelled by the spawning of nemesis/adversaries, for the same reason.
A nemesis system that required the construciton of associated and very specific relics/gear/weapons of the current grade/quality, to defeat them.
ie The higher tier, the higher quality items and the more rare and harder to acquire they become (at grade 6 – 1 hero per nemesis).
Maybe even conferring unique solo/group skills/powers, targetted directly at that nemesis.
I notice how you are talking about temporary vs permanent god hood, that is dependant on having a lock/key relic.
We did have similar discussions years ago on a timer/forfeit basis, for one off unicorn mounts and such.
I guess this is no different to the random dragon egg mount that appears in the wild (aside from mayors).
straight up my friends and I are planning on making a pirate/bandit guild. the pirate king thing is a dope idea.
There is a lot that AoC can do with Titles, and I'm excited to see what they do. Having different titles for such things as The Scrooge for a merchant type title, Amphibian for those who spend the most time underwater, or Lord of the Dark for most Dungeons cleared.
These could provide meaningful buffs to what they are for, ie tax changes, longer breathing underwater, or sprint speed. Having them be restricted to a small group or individuals would create competition, and as you said the collection aspect is important for the long term health of an MMO.
One piece
Gomu gomu no
+1 for support. Keep the great vids coming!
This really is a great video concept, love the interraction
I don't know why the pirate king should have to be ghostly at all… I want to be a living legend
If you can access the items in your caravan can't you just keep one outside of town and sell out of it?
YEP COC
I don't understand why MMOs don't let you become guards for income. It would be sick if merchants have no skill or combat experience and for hire protection.
Narcbald u nailed again
Pd: yorch from discord rofl
Wow Narc you are so famous now you have haiters im proud how my 100 subs boi has evolved (noice vid)
I'd really like to see a Merchant offer various solo, party, and raid size, expensive-to-buy Notorious Monster Hunt tags, which would come with a one-time use treasure map to follow. X-marks the spot style, somewhere on Verra, whether you've been there before or not – and with no other descriptions at all. Each would yield exotic and valuable Loot!
