Ashes of Creation is heading into 2022 ready to make some big milestones on development and hopefully making their way towards an Alpha 2 sometime in the future.
Today here are some thoughts I have about Player Customization within MMOs and why I want as much depth from the all the customizable systems Ashes of Creation may have.
What do you think about the player customization options found within MMOs and how do you envision Ashes of Creation giving players customization options for all gameplay loops the game will have?
Thanks for tuning in!

People want customization. There is a real Path of Exil has a hardcore playerbase, that games skill tree is hugely customizable. Elder Scrolls Online has a high CP360+ that allows you to customize your character immensely. Lost Ark, apart from pay2win, has so many ways to customize your character with engravings/gems/roster exp/etc. All these games give customization that make your character stronger and do or take more damage
GW2 customization is horizontal and allows you to experience the world in more different ways, and it has a dedicated playerbase as a result.
Why cant an MMO do both? ashes could do both. Allow vertical progression AND horizontal progression with a scaling system like GW2 that scales older zones UP to your "power level" (for example) …
This way new content can be added that power creeps your character upwards, yet doesnt nullify older content….. Similar to how gw2 zones are all active even lower ones (partly due of course to one worldwide server shared by all in PvE).
Would allow those who want to min/max in a non-linear way to do as they do …. And those who like a more "on the rails" approach can still be satisfied as they wouldn't be forced to do optional content to power creep their characters.
I play alot of DnD 5e as well …. Half the fun is building and messing with your character, class, domain, diety, spells, abilities etc etc
Always love the passion in your videos.
Here's some random thoughts about how I'm going to be different to other Weapon-masters (Fighter/Fighter) and sort of what I want to do.
Go one handed club (probably the least popular weapon) and shield. Being full DPS, but with a bit of extra tankiness and possibly more utility. I think the flavour of Fighters will not be in animations, but in the really in depth specialization of your weapon compared to other classes.
Btw who knows what the Club tree will be like since we don't really see them as a weapon type in MMO's. Maybe it reduces endurance and punches through damage shields.
I think they really are in the right direction with the variety of weapons. Like polearms, clubs, crossbows, orbs, spell books, rapiers e.c.t. Other MMOs of the past stick to generalizations of weapon types. But I think we really missed out on the weapons mentioned in games like WOW, ESO, Guild Wars 2.
And I'm going Tulnar because they seem like the most unique race in terms of them living underground, and we've heard they're be the most customizable and different due to their 3 sub races within their race itself.
Really curious to see how people will make unique and cool characters and how they'll work together with their strengths and weaknesses.
I think that's the difference with this game, I'm not thinking "Am I gonna get rolled on 1v1 in PVP or small skirmishes if I play the way I want". It's more like putting a jigsaw puzzle together and figuring out how that will become a piece in the part of a larger puzzle within group play.. it's just got so many layers without even touching on the crafting/life skill stuff.
