What is Ashes of Creation?

Ashes of Creation is a unique take on the MMO experience. Our world structure is dynamic and built to react to the actions of our players. Cities will rise and fall, their populations based on the history of the world as the players create it. Quests will unlock as these populations gather, their needs grow, and secrets are unlocked. As the world’s NPC structure is established in real time, players will have the ability to destroy what they’ve created, paving the way for new development, new populations, and real change. Political strife and intrigue will play a very real role in the structure of your world. Gone are the days of static worlds, change is here to stay.

Risk Vs Reward
All across Verra, you have the opportunity to experience massive warfare, participate in epic trade caravans, and gather valuable components to craft exquisite items. Not only will your fellow players be your adversaries; the creatures of the land and the very environment itself will pose a constant and fresh challenge. Will you siege castles to become royalty, defeat other guilds to showcase your prowess, shape the marketplace by being a successful trader, or earn renown by developing your artisan crafting skills? This is your story, you tell us!

  2. Narc is simply full of Shit, standing at the end of the map and stating the desert has nothing is being completely disingenuous.about the actual facts and this whole video of him explaining away why he is right and not guilty of lying. Show your audience whats behind you , Steven's rebuttle clearly showed a live actual in server currently accessible for player testers. That Narc did not show or refence deliberately leaving it out. Narc got called out on it and is now scrambling to cover up his lies and misleading content….All for click bait and viewers…

  3. One thing I wish was said as someone with coding/software dev experience is "X feature doesn't exist in the public alpha client", however, "X feature DOES exist in the development alpha client". It can both exist and not exist, within the context of the build you are playing, and you only have access to one of them. Imagine two totally different executables like dev_release.exe versus public_release.exe. You can't say something doesn't exist just because its not in the game that you double clicked on. The devs have many different builds all running at the same time with different elements of different features or otherwise referred to as "services" to flesh out how they interact with each other. Saying "I can't cut down a tree in the desert but I can in the forest" should lead you to believe that tree cutting is totally working, but each biome needs to have the same work done to it repeatedly. I would 100% expect a dev to show things from their dev build and not their release build so maybe doing a better job of clarifying that helps but tbh at the end of the day the average person has no clue how this stuff works, sometimes even at a basic level.

Edit: Asmon did kind of say this around the 36 min mark but I hope that this point is well received because this context is so critical when you make such affirmative statements.

  4. Holy christ Narc is just actually off his rocker or something. I can't even stand to hear this man speak anymore with how he's just lying and speaking as if it's FACT, his tone is just 'I have something very important to say' but it's just…wrong.

  5. As a long time backer to Star Citizen that plays every patch, contributes to the issue council, has followed and backed the game for years, and pays very close attention to info releases, I can tell you as of today dynamic griding DOES NOT exist on servers, yet, the base core foundation of SERVER meshing has JUST been introduced, that is true but the dynamic part, is nowhere in sight… Not to say it wont ever come out, I do believe CIG has been massive progress in that department), anyone that tells you that it is in the game either is talking out their ass, or has no clue what the difference between base server meshing and dynamic griding is(or as we call it, Dynamic Server Meshing). TL;DR, Star Citizen has STATIC Server Meshing currently, but Dynamic Server Meshing, is nowhere in sight, and has yet to be tested outside a devbox machine in office or the showcase they did at Citcon.

I understand what Narc is trying to say but his delivery of it is awful, he is trying to say the devs have used disingenuous practices to up sale the game to get extra funding, the videos and live streams they've put out, they seem to say things in a way that make it seem like a lot of the content they are talking about is in the game at current or will be out X phase, and it's not… The devs then don't communicate that X content is delayed or just not ready, it's bad communication, we deal with this with Star Citizen, although CIG does a much better job at communicating then intrepid has.

The other problem Narc has is of market manipulation and FOMO, by saying, "Get this $250 pack to get into phase 2 Alpha before its gone!", creates fomo, then they re-release the same pack back to the store a month or two before Alpha 2 at a lower cost, to snag more sales, which is fine if they communicate that, but they haven't. At least with Star Citizen we have dates of when certain ships will be for sale and wont be for sale, such as IAE and ILW. No matter how you look at it, it is dirty marketing tactics to drive revenue.

Don't get me wrong, I don't disagree with the company trying to make money to support development, they should, but they need to better communicate in all aspects, and I think that's why Narc is so upset, as he has taken the devs words at face value, and feels like hes lying to his viewers.

Just to add, I am not agreeing with what Narc is saying, what I am saying is I get what he is trying to say and how he feels, he has some valid points but hsi articulation is awful.

As a person that has sunk money into Star Citizen, I went into it knowing it's alpha and I knew what I was getting into, just as I would if I did the same for Ashes, when friends of mine ask about the game I am very clear on what we see being concepted is far off and the game is not a "game" yet, it's an alpha. I also have the luxury of understanding game dev very well.

  6. Ashes has a huge team. Narc is way off base here. If they were a team of 10 people he might have a point, but you can't have over 100 devs being paid a salary and make nothing.

  7. I think a fundamental problem is that Stevens version of 'in the game' means it's just in one of their builds. It might not even accessible to players at all, but its technically in the game yes.

  8. Narc is an idiot.
Narc: "I'm so mad that I paid $250 for access to the alpha and it's not what I want"
Asmongold: "so you actually paid for it?"
Narc: " well no I got it for free but my viewers paid for it"
Asmongold: "If the game was free would you feel the same about it?"
Narc: "well no, then I'd be fine…."

The amount backtracking and double speak. GTFO out of here Narc.

  9. Are you guys seriously this stupid? Or are you just jumping on whichever side your messiah takes? How can you not understand what narc is talking about? He knows its in development, he knows its in alpha. Him standing in a baren desert is his way of saying its pretty much this, because the trees you cant interact with, like you qere told two years ago, the dungeon doesnt exist, when even myself and a few friends were looking foward to testing it together. Nothing that they sold two years ago is here, and if you can't understand narcs frustration woth that, then you need a mental break from asmond.

  11. This is how I define an alpha. An alpha is an early testing phase in a software development cycle that you DON'T demand your customer to pay for them. Alpha is for the purpose of testing the game that is NONE of customers' business to get involved much less so pay to take part in alpha. If you want non-developers to take part in alpha, its called volunteer tester or PAID (by the company) tester. Customer don't PAY to test the software for you. This is my definition of alpha.

  12. When boss of a company PAY MONEY to its employee, he/she expect certain performance and quality standard from the employee to the satisfaction of the boss. If it fall shorts of the boss expectation, then the boss may scold and fcuk the employee upside-down. He may also fire the employee and terminate the employer-employee relationship.

So when a player PAY MONEY to a game studio, whether it is for a fully developed game or to take part in alpha phase testing, the player expects certain performance and quality standard from the game studio. If it fall shorts of the player's expectation, then the player may scold and fcuk the game studio upside down. The player may also fire the game and terminate the game-player relationship.

So how do you define expectation? You cannot. Expectation is different for each individual. There is no single well-defined standard to measure expectation of ALL players. The closest you can get is proxy, basically for the same amount of money you pay for the alpha, which other games you can buy and then use that game as the measure standard.

There is one solution to all these mess. Just don't ask player to pay for a half-baked job. If you have no full and ready product to sell, you have no business to ask player for money. IF you collect money from player, you will have to deliver up to their expectation, whatever that may be. You cannot fault players who are unhappy because their expectation are unmet. Whose problem is it? It is you who decide to collect money from player and then fall short of meeting player's expectation.

  13. 20:00 that's the best point. Showcases show stuff in a vacuum. They tend to break when you try to bring it online and it starts interacting with other systems. So you have to break it apart and start fixing the interactions. Same with freeholds and bioms I'm sure.
