  1. Fyi, most ff14 players don't play via steam cuz it's a horrible experience.
When FF14 had to stop sales of the game because it was too many people for servers to handle, it wasn't because there were many millions of players active via steam.

  2. BDO, EVE Online and other Open PvP MMOs have always been and will always be very niche games whilst there is in whole or in part open PvP mechanisms, most people will see that feature and just say nope. I don't think you should blame the Devs. As soon as a game developer is owned by a corporation that is on the stock exchange, the board and the CEO have a duty to their shareholders to act in a manner which will maximise profit and thus either return more money to them via a dividend and/or have the share price increase in value. This prevents people sabotaging companies out of spite or negligence but it also puts pressure on developers by the executives.

We see changes from the perspective of the player, but a developer is constrained by directives from the CEO and the board. Are your design decisions going to maximise profits. When you see success of MMOs like WoW or even FFXIV which tanked completely initially and was redeveloped, it is going to be a hard sell when you have tens of thousands of active players compared to tens of millions. The executives are going to say what is holding us back.

They will say we have this small niche following which really likes Open PvP but it is as popular as a fart in an elevator when it comes to the MMO genre as a whole.

I think the better solution was to keep BDO as the niche PvP focused MMO and make Crimson Desert Online (instead of what it currently is) into a story focused PvE MMO that can compete with games like WoW and FFXIV. I think FFXIV has shown you can go from nowhere to surpass WoW if you are good at what you do and there is a lot that FFXIV doesn't do well. I don't think BDO is remotely good enough to be a PvE MMO, the content isn't comparable to the type of content WoW or FFXIV has. I'd like to see them do a PvE story oriented MMO (get better writers though, BDO story is trash), and restore BDO PvP to service that part of the genre that enjoys PvP systems. They aren't limited to just one game.

  3. Either they need to instance off the tutorial area, or limit flagging to a higher level cap or they need to make it a safe zone. Town's being a safe zone I'm kind of iffy on, its fine for now because there's no reason to afk the game like in BDO. The problem with his stance on it at 21:32 is that sometimes people just wanna start some drama. Whenever I did it in BDO, it wasn't to harass someone off the server, but it was more to break up the mundane experience I was getting from BDO by starting some shit. We had it happen to us, and we did it to others.

BDO's probably a bad example though because the game is shit at endgame, plus we have no idea what endgame will be for ashes. However, part of the OWPvP experience is that you can wreck peoples shit that are not at the same gear level as you. That's, more or less, a feature of the mode. In the end, it's also a forever-issue that OWPvP games will have. Its interesting to see the dev's take a hard stance on it, but if they're gonna do that then they should just remove flagging entirely and leave pvp to guild wars or caravan events. Flagging for resources could have people getting reported for the wrong reasons, and who's to say where the line can be drawn. If someone goes out and wipes a low level zone out with their guild – not because they need the resources, but because they wanna troll someone else, it would still fall under the "fighting for resources" if they flagged on players, which, by the dev's standards, is totally fine.

Its the same problem BDO has. Just remove flagging, it serves so a little purpose that why bother having it in the first place? Oh, and it will only hurt new, unsuspecting players too that accidentally flag without knowing the problems tied to it. This has been proven in BDO when they added harsher naval fame penalties. Also, whoever thought that ALT should be the default flagging button is an absolute moron.

  4. Careful giving Asmon too many props publicaly. I know you are/were in his slipstream and very grateful for that. But that dude is not as nice as you think he is. Better try to create a bit of distance from him if you can.

  5. okay lets go MU/L2/Aion/Albion/EVE/ArcheAge and except Albion and EVE, the other fails cuz were not able to bring new good content and or not able to optimize there game, there are still L2 and AION server but not as popular as before, PVP does not canibal the games and players base, it is just the new games, are soft-core and want more chill midless not think experience from MMORPG, heck even Throne and Liberty is way to easy, for 1 mouth 2 you already can go t1 end game, where other new games would take at last 6m to 1 year

  6. cant they just do a rolling schedule of ashra rules in zones n keep it like this? so some zones have increased reward but is very free for all PvP, while the more tame rules still enabled pvp if u really hate someone, but keep it in check

  7. Lots of absolutes here. You can certainly make a pvp/pve game work, but pvp is the MINORITY, lets be real. Most players are PVE players but can enjoy(to varying degrees) consensual pvp. PVP can certainly enhance the end game. Wow does this pretty well. If you allow pvp in a zone, but are punished for pvp, then it's just a bad design system as bad as it sounds. If you want to hold back the potential of your population, then sure focus on non consensual pvp.
