Ashes of Creation's Future Looks Bright With Unreal Engine 5 Update

Read more about Ashes of Creation ➜ https://ashesofcreation.mgn.tv

Ashes of creation are making moves to be the most stunning visual MMORPG out there. The game already looked GOOD for an MMORPG but this is something truly impressive, Unreal Engine 5 tech wise looks to be a huge step in the direction of making our game worlds come to life more than ever before and Ashes is one of the first big projects in the genre to move over.

  1. It looks good, but in general (beyond this game) I find that the quality of UE5 visuals just serves to highlight how poor everything else is.

Like, the visuals here look good, but the character's proportions are a little off. And animations in general don't seem to have much weight, if any.

Don't get me wrong, it looks really good, but as a detail-oriented person it looks a little jarring to me.

  2. Since I didn't see it mentioned already, people may want to temper their expectations just a bit. UE5 is still an unfinished product. Not sure what the expected release date of this game is (if any), but it could be very possible that it sees additional delays due to things like Epic deciding to change how certain features work, stop supporting them, or remove them entirely until UE5 is actually released. Personally I think the chances of that happening are low, but people saying this will accelerate development should also stay wary that cutting edge tech always comes with its own baggage. The worst part being that when problems do pop up you have to be the one spending resources to figure it out/sit around waiting for a fix.

  3. What they should do, right, is make it all about PVP and entirely combat focused, because there just aren't enough PVP focused combat MMOs out there, so this will make it so different to every other MMO currently on the market. They should also make sure they completely ignore any roleplaying mechanics, because nobody wants that. Everyone wants nothing but PVP combat, right? 😉 Joking aside, it does look impressive, but I hope it does something new for the genre and doesn't end up just being a carbon copy of every other MMO.

  4. The skills and animations are absolute trash. Literally hurts my eyes. Hopefully in the latter stages of the production it will get a massive overhaul. The graphics are really bad too. I will always compare it to BDO, cuz thats what I play, and so far, a game released in 2016 (and massively updated over the years) still beats this by MILES. I literally do believe that BDO will still look way better than ashes, even after the release of ashes. The animations, combat, will still be far better in BDO. So for me only 1 thing can save Ashes: content. Because u can already see that in every other aspect it will fall short. And I know its only an alpha build, but this is an alpha thats not predicting anything good for the future. So yeah. Hopefully the content will be top-notch, cuz otherwise this will be a huge flop. And the more I see from the game, the more I think it will flop. Plz prove me wrong intrepid. I want to believe in this project x_x

Edit: oh and the character models… In BDO the characters feel sooooo alive, cuz they look so good (Im not talking about the waifu characters that ppl made). They look incredibly good, their movement is top-quality, the animations, everything + the environment around them – they just fit in it perfectly. And thats another area where Ashes so far is totally OFF. The characters look awful and move like zombies (reminds me of TESO, which is horrible imo).

  5. Anybody who was able to poke around UE5 know their asset library looks amazing. This engine will be responsible for countless scam videos which will make moon bros jizz their pants instantly.

  6. Epic Games: "What a nice ray tracing technology you got there, Nvidia. It would be a shame of someone came up with something incomparably less demanding and equally nice looking."

  7. Personally my big gripe with AoC is the settlement system. AoC is looking like the perfect MMO for me. I simp ArcheAge, but let's be fair – ArcheAge is getting dated. So I want AoC to succeed. However, I really can't see it happening, not with the settlement system and… democracy. Democracy means streamers will run the servers, except in the cases where a server doesn't have a streamer on it – then the server will be ran by Russian alts. Also, the thing I absolutely cannot forgive AoC and I hope more pressure gets applied to them for it – full price + subscription + cash shop. For the cash shop they have not said it's going to be vanity only – which would also be a problem. They have said it won't be pay2win. Which means "pay for convenience" is on the table. This cannot be the future of MMOs. The game isn't even out and they've sold FOMO costumes. We are way too forgiving already and I don't think we will be able to walk our tolerance to garbage monetizations back with this game. I hope it succeeds because I want a new favorite MMO. ArcheAge being my fave is not a good look. But I have to be skeptical. Also the issue of making the game require a beefy rig will be a problem with the GPU shortage, which with the rise of NFTs and other crypto pyramid schemes, is not going to go away once the pandemic is over.

  8. Just to reassure people somewhat, intrepid are currently on the market for a senior animations developer. They dont rush these appointments as they want passionate and talented people as well as in studio staff so its a small pool.

But that does mean they are aware they want to increase the quality of animations so long as they fill this spot i am sure the quality will improve across the board.

  9. Looks really nice, but as you mentioned the movement is clunky, I would wish that the movement would feel like watching fellowship of the ring and watching Aragorn run through the forest. Additionally there seems to be zero feel of impact in battles. Without numbers popping on to the screen you could not tell if you have hit the enemy or if the enemy has struck you. During the battle with the cat enemy on the ice, I found myself surprised when that red -5 hp text popped up even through the cat was nowhere near our protagonist, almost like the cat was damaging him with an aura of some sort.. EDIT: One more thing. There doesn't seem to be weight impact to the hero or monsters but everything (unless landing from a jump) seems to be able to stop on a spot without any movement momentum. For example if a monster is chasing you to a cliff like in one scene, it would be nice to see that the monster is not able to stop on a spot and might occasionally be carried over the cliff by its momentum before able to stop.

  10. That the real mistake of today gamers, on manny streamers and players in general Kira. You are wrongs saying if graphycs are good, music is good and lightning is good , then game is awesome and content can come laters. Players play a game for content., A real game play games for story or for the contents, and if graphycally is awesome and gamepl;ay sucks, anny game dies fast. Can be a very good pixel game, i would play it if is awesome. Very small players play games for art.

  11. RE weird walking animation: It looks like he isn't really making contact with the ground. Ie it doesn't look like his feet have anything to do with pushing himself forward in the world.

  12. This looks like generic UE5 gameplay. Watch any of Fat Dino's videos where he recreates games & it has the same UE feel to it, which would not be enjoyable to me. Or any of the asset flips on steam.

  13. I agree, running seems like movement when you step in small hole in night. When you like anticipate solid ground but its 5 cm deeper and then is this fast feet clap. Hmm
I also think that there somewhere hips and shoulders is disproportional or even leg lenght. But maybe thats just result of char customization

  14. I hope they raise where the camera position for your character is to be a bit more over the shoulder. Or just higher, somehow. Where it currently is creates this strange illusion of the characters' legs shrinking in length when you move.

  15. They still are missing the improved combat mechanics, the crafting systems, a fully functioning node system, thousands of quests to enable to quest based leveling process among other things. Now they have seemingly spent months in making the game U5 compatible. It remains to be seen if they can make that new engine run smooth in actual mass pvp combat.
