Ashes of Creation is the most anticipated MMORPG in development at the moment. Development started back in Feb 2016 and from the trailers/teasers they were dropping, it was super hype. Later they had a successful kickstarter campaign and the community was pumped.
Unfortunately, they decided to take a detour for testing combat buy building a full fledged battle royale themed game called Ashes of Creation – Apocalypse. This eventually failed and Ashes came back to the MMORPG development.
In this video, there were a few key points I wanted to make note of which stood out to me. I’ll definitely make more indepth content about some of the things covered in this video and will keep a close eye on the development of Ashes of Creation.

What do you guys think? Will it fail?
Brother u said Summit 2G or i need ear wax already :DDDDDD
Awesome video, it was about time someone made a video like this. So many people hyping it up but no one questioning will it make it. WoW has 10 years on AoC. Kinda weird how all these content creators got paid to say its the WoW killer
great video!! i agree with your statements.
Great video. I feel like this is the beginning of something here. Keep up the good work on this type of content.
Nice video bro ! keep it up I agree with u on most points but I hope ashes of creation will be good.
U say lack of content I think of destiny2
👀
1 issue i have with dps meters is u have those ppl who ONLY care about their dps. theyll get hit, fail mechanics just to be TOP dps or watever and wen the grp wipes they can say its not them. im still in favor of them tho in the long run.
Nobody can tell if they will fail or not, but I believe they are at least much more invested in succeeding than every other crowdfunded MMO, because Steven Sharif put a significant part of his personal fortune into this game. The couple million from the kickstarter are a cherry on top. So at least, they have a good budget and a director who is really putting his heart and soul in.
Daily and weekly is why I fucking hate ffxiv
Great input pans, always good keep it up! 🙂
Similar to eso.. don’t like this Game
Similar to eso.. don’t like it
actually i am not excited for any new games anymore. feels like they are gonna take full price for a beta test. its usually taking solid 2-3 yrs for a game to be stable after the release. i was broken after cyberpunk .. i dont trust any new game until i see it. no more preorders for me. cyberpunk was the straw that broke camels back for me.
Love your style – hope you cover other upcoming MMOs with this type of analysis and continue with more Ashes of Creation content as well!
dps meter is a dps meter…when you get my experience in mmo (ultima my first) and my age (48).. i can't keep up with apm that younger peeps have. so i feel knowing more mechanics is better than apm to an extent. us old timers may never be top leaderboards but we all still seem to be always in bis gear lol…great video as always
As much as I want them to succeed, it'll probably flop like Bless did
if they change the aesthetics to adhere to coomers and make the characters way more attractive….the game will succeed regardless at least for a while.
It's a shame that you didn't mention that only 20% of dungeons will be instanced, and so far it seems like those might just be the story dungeons. I've never played WoW with its dps meters and hundreds of wipes on the same boss, but I've played Lineage 2 (which is a big inspiration for this game) and we didn't have dps meters there cause they would've been useless. In order to even kill a boss, you'd first have to wipe your PC enemies. And usually you'd fight against both the boss and the players at the same time, so there wasn't really any place for complex mechanics that would warrant a dps meter. So far it looks like Ashes will have a similar approach to its raids, with just a bit more complex mechanics on bosses just cause the times require you to have those.
Their boss farming stream showed it pretty well. You have 2 bosses with big aoes and disrupting abilities, while there's also some environmental hazards on the ground that could influence the farm. They didn't have players attacking them, but on the live server there'd be constant pvp happening around that area so any additional mechanics would only lead to both sides wiping, which isn't fun for anyone.
Now I do realize that not everyone will like this approach to raiding, because most mmo players have been conditioned by WoW to love complex mob interactions and bashing their heads against a dps meter wall where your every move and action is under scrutiny because it might lead to your whole raid failing, but Ashes isn't trying to become the new WoW (at least so far) so the target audience seems to mainly be the PvPers who want to fight other people while also farming some mobs in the background.
I've got a feeling this game will become a power point presentation with more than 10 people on the screen. All "fresh" mmos i've tried before had really bad optimization issues the worst one being BLESS. Also i hate that they went with tab-targeting combat for this one, i also come from BDO and man bdo might suck in many aspects but the free action combat alone carries the game so much for me and probably for most people. Tab targeting was great in games like WoW or GW2 when there wasn't that much choice and suddenly for a game that is expected to come out in 2022 (bdo first came out on korea in 2014 + TERA had mixed combat system) they went with tab targeting which in my opinion is just lazy way out. Even in their official developer update video they said tab targeting is just easier to do and most people are used to it from games like WoW… again lazy way out. After playing BDO and even hybrids like TERA i can tell the tab targeting will by first major no for this game
Before worrying if it's going to fail worry if it is ever going to launch. My favorite PVP game was SWG before NGE, though I enjoyed Archeage in the beginning and I love BDO but not for the PVP. Yeah I would rather they not have dailies except for quarterly events. I have a big enough to do list in real life. The other thing that worries me is servers being at different stages – I played Istaria (Horizons) and they got to the point that they had horrible problems keeping the software up to date on each server since each could be in a different stage.
"Stop running my game mode" is an infamous line one if the gw2 devs shouted with his dev tag up while he interrupted one of the early unofficial GvGs back in the day. Good times I'll miss.
Ashes of Creation it's a total scam, the game is shitty and it is at a really poor state.
I always believed the game would fail. It was the same story of "The new era of MMOs" and is overhyped. Unless it delivers on lag free, fluid gameplay, that feels impactful it's pretty much dead on arrival. And from what I've seen so far… it doesn't check those boxes. This is why they are limiting the test to people who are willing to dump hundreds of dollars into it. It develops a sunk cost fallacy that makes the player forgive such shortcomings. This is why the NDA will persist for so long, because once thousands of people are playing and the public see those shortcomings they will wake up to reality.
That said, I will applaud you making this video, your points were well made. And no doubt you'll meet the many emotional people who want this game to be the new era of MMOS. From the "The game is still in development so you can't call out it's faults" to the "Hey it's a game for gamers made by gamers" to finally "You just want to ruin this game with features just for you" without a single thought to the irony of the statement.
if the money keeps flowing the game will succeed but the team has to be realistic on their plans so the game doesn't fall behind the budget they set (star citizen comes to mind)
Steven's wealth isn't infinite and when the money runs out that's when we can start to worry,
Hope it does well but as for me I am pretty much done with the sub model at this current time, if it was b2p i would have checked it out and bought one of the packs. GW2 is doing fine tho and yes it at it's best at the current time and I am looking forward to EoD expansion.
Wish to see the same thing for crimson desert.
