Ashes of Creations cosmetic packs have always been a contraversial topic for this highly anticipated MMORPG. I don’t like to shy away from the reality of this games funding because I believe getting the correct information out to the public is important for public perception so today, we’ll be discussing Ashes of Creation’s funding, monetisation and future plans to hopfully.. set the record straight so people understand the purpose of this game.

Sadly, I really wanted to get out the next part of the Intro series to you guys but this video ended up being way too long to include it. You can be assured it’ll be in the next video though as it’s already finished. Apologies for rambling but I thought today’s topic was Important.

  2. I like them selling outfits ect……… this doesn't HAVE to mean … that they can't drop the same look off of bosses or allow skilled crafters to craft this gear with enchantment slots ect….making some just for looks and others in game enhancements. Open your mind to the possibilities. Also those that cry cuz these people bought the look… need to remember the game is only here due to them helping fund it. Also the same look can be enhanced by glowing or states ect. Also the new gear from new areas might be even better.

  3. Hummm… Why does the game need a cosmetic store AND a subscription fee? I'd much rather have all the cosmetics to be found in the game world. The game seems to already be fully funded. Thus, when it releases, all the money they make will turn into pure profit. So why? Why does there have to be a game shop at all? Give the game a box price, give it a subscription fee and then just skip the stupid in game store at all.

  4. The biggest problem I have with the selling of cosmetics before the game is even launched (even though I am guilty of buying a couple packs) is that I feel that it will make the world seem lived in from the getgo. Rather than feeling like a brand new experience with everyone on the same playing field on launch, its going to feel and look like the game has been around for years with the hundreds of different cosmetics that people are using from the beginning. The exorbitant amount of uniqueness the players in the game are going to have day 1 is going to kill a lot of the excitedness for the game because as has been mentioned in other comments already people are going to see all the different cosmetics that people are using and then go out into the wilds and basically be surprised by nothing because they saw the exact same thing worn, ridden or used by those other players.
A decent compromise to this would be if they had an actual planned release date and then started selling the packs a few months prior to draw up hype for the launch, but with the caveat that the items would not become available or useable until a reasonable date after launch to preserve the exploration and discovery factor of the game. No means is this a perfect solution but something along these lines would've been better than what they are currently doing. Who knows, maybe the in game collectable cosmetics/items will look much better and be what people choose to show off over the store bought ones. Though looking at the history of games with purchasable cosmetics, limited time store bought items tend to be more appealing to players than in game collected items for a number of reasons.

  5. yes, if the game is supposed to be based around exploration and making earning armor and cosmetics feel "worthwhile" then you can't really sell cosmetics for real money or some real money to currency exchange.
You would get something like World of Warcraft, where even high level gear is not really impressive anymore because players can optain those buy other means besides "earning it the intended way".
The "pay to earn" way is technically ethical. But it comes at a high price. It changes the way players feel and interact WITH the game entirely.

  7. why are his clothes shiny? it looks like the pirate is made out of used condoms. you look like you came out of a used condom with that bald head and falsetto whine. good points though, i agree! the cosmetic fad really appeals to a generation of nerds growing up with major identity issues. how do you stand out when the entire world is the pond you grow up in?

  8. I'm always eagerly itching for an extremely immersive experience in an MMO, but I already know AoC isn't going to be it. There's too many cosmetics that can and will clash violently with the setting and lore in favor of shiny baubles people pay for. I fear the private out-of-node houses are going to be the biggest offenders unless each freehold skin has requirements like "Must be connected to a X size node with Y race's theme and must be in a Z biome," but that's bound to upset players. I'd personally love it though, it means that Py'Rae "Scintillarium" is all the more rare and beautiful because it can only be potentially seen in a limited part of the world.

  9. I get what you're saying about in game cosmetics vs cosmetic store. The way to meet halfway is to ensure in game achievable cosmetics are DIFFERENT from those in the store. You will still see players in awesome gear, but you will know which are from the store and which are achieved by the .0001% chance drop from a world boss. Intrepid just needs to ensure this happens and do their best to make them look…well better than the stores. Maybe in game achievable armors/weapons have effects or something on them like essence imbued items or something along those lines.

  10. Honestly cosmetic options are always good but you don't have to open wallet-kun unless you really want to. You can look at star citizen that blew 500mil and they don't even have most of what was promised for the mmorpg. I bought the 500 dollar pack before the life time was taken off and friends called me crazy but aside from playing during alpha and actually seeing the game and what it was like which had bugs like every game does but that they where making good progress was a reason I never felt like it was a waste. People are willing to buy skins from LoL and spend 40 to 60 for some art too. No pay to win but lots of cosmetics is completely fine.

  11. My problem is with the building cosmetics mostly. Some of them look really extreme and don't look like they would blend in with many environments. It also muddies the waters and makes it harder to compare player structures.
